Job summary

Gordon Food Service in Ajax, Ontario, is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to perform preventative and corrective maintenance on warehouse equipment, HVAC and refrigeration systems, and automated storage/retrieval gear. This role requires strong reading of mechanical drawings and clear communication, with emphasis on safety and reliability.

The position offers a rotating Monday–Friday schedule with two shifts, opportunities for overtime during peak seasons, and a comprehensive benefits

Qualifications

• Refrigeration Operator Class B Certification is required.
• Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A) Certification is preferred.
• Skilled trade ticket is preferred.
• 5+ years of direct hands-on experience in mechanical repairs and maintenance with automated equipment.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
• Ability to think and respond well under pressure.
• Knowledge with mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems; electrical experience beneficial.
• Experience with maintenance and repair of lift trucks is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs to warehouse equipment (forklifts, dock levelers, doors, HVAC, water heaters, pneumatic/hydraulic systems).
• Provide maintenance support for automated storage and retrieval systems.
• Respond to emergencies and support building/automation operations.
• Perform routine cleaning, lubrication and preventive maintenance.
• Manage power transfer between natural gas generator and utility.
• Participate in ammonia refrigeration system line openings and custodial work.
• Extend additional duties as needed.

Specific Responsibilities and Functions :

• Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs to all warehouse equipment including but not limited to fork lifts, dock levelers, restraints, overhead doors, high speed doors, HVAC systems, water heaters, compressed air systems, fire suppression systems and conventional racking

• Perform scheduled preventative and predictive maintenance and provide maintenance support for the automated storage and retrieval systems.

• Respond to emergency situations and support all operations of the building and automations systems

• Cleaning, lubricating and performing other routine maintenance work on building and machinery

• Starting, stopping and transferring power to and from natural gas generator to utility

• Participating in line openings of the refrigeration ammonia system

• Refrigeration custodial work as needed

• Additional duties as needed

Working Conditions :

• Grocery area in the warehouse is room temperature; varies from cold in the winter and warm in the summer

• Cooler area in the warehouse is approximately 1 or 2 degrees C

• Freezer area in the warehouse is approximately –15 degrees C. Some areas of the freezer can get as low as -23 degrees C

• Moderate noise level

• Will regularly be required to stand, walk

• Required to have a high degree of concentration and alertness

Additional Details :

• Monday - Friday (Rotating Shifts): 7:15am - 3:30pm or 3:15pm - 11:30pm. Weekends as needed

• Hourly Rate: $40.98 - $47.98 p/hr

• During peak seasons, scheduled overtime is required

• There is a 30-minute paid lunch for an 8-hour shift

• GFS Delivers every day of the year, as we are a 24/7 operation. Employees must be flexible to work all Statutory Holidays, however, this does not necessarily mean that employees will be required to work all of them.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Refrigeration Operator Class B Certification is required

• Must have well developed knowledge and experience with mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Electrical experience will be considered beneficial

• Experience with maintenance and repair of lift trucks would be beneficial
