Job summary

Star Building Materials Edmonton is seeking a Class 5 Driver to join our logistics team in Nisku, AB. Reporting to the Logistics Manager, you will provide excellent customer service, load trucks safely, verify shipping documents, and deliver materials across the region.

This role requires a high school diploma, at least 3 months delivery experience, a valid Class 5 licence with a clean driving record, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather. A positive safety mindset is essential.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school, read/write and do basic math.
  • Minimum 3 months delivery experience.
  • Valid Class 5 licence with clean driving record.
  • Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service as a company representative.
  • Load truck safely and in a timely manner.
  • Verify accuracy of shipping documents.
  • Deliver materials via efficient routes to stay on schedule.
  • Follow Star’s safety programs and SOPs at all times.
  • Maintain and inspect equipment; assist forklift operators as needed.

Daytime shift - 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (Monday to Friday).

Requirements
  • Completion of high school, must be able to read and write, and perform basic math.
  • Minimum 3 months of delivery experience.
  • Valid Class 5 licence, satisfactory driver’s abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle. You will be driving a company vehicle, and a copy of their driver's licence and a driver's abstract will be required during the interview stage.
  • Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
  • Attention to detail, good hand/eye coordination and situational awareness of physical work environment.
  • Physically able to kneel and crouch as well as lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing up to 75 lbs. without the assistance of mobile or powered equipment.
  • Physically able to climb ladders and work at heights of up to 24’ on flat or angled rooftops.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Q (Air Brake) endorsement is an asset.
  • Previous experience in a lumberyard is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with building materials is good to have.
  • Ability to operate a manual transmission is preferred.
  • Crane experience is an asset.
  • Experience with rigging and load securement is an asset.
Job Overview

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, as the Class 5 Driver you provide excellent customer service to all customers as a representative of the company.

  • Providing excellent customer service to all customers as a representative of the company.
  • Loading truck in a safe and timely manner.
  • Verifying accuracy of shipping documents.
  • Delivering materials via the most efficient route to remain on schedule.
  • Adhering to Star’s Safety Programs and standard operating procedures at all times.
  • Keeping equipment clean and in a good order condition, including completion of daily pre-trip inspections.
  • Assisting forklift operators loading trucks as needed.
  • Taking photos for proof of undamaged, complete and correctly placed delivery.
Work Conditions

You primarily work outdoors during regular business hours. Work includes exposure to potential occupational hazards as well as dealing with inclement weather, dust and noise. Occasional weekend or evening work may be required. Actions taken and decisions made directly impact the safety and health of others. Overtime may be required during the busy season.
