Job summary

Varsteel Ltd. in Saskatchewan is seeking an experienced truck driver to plan and execute routes across local and long-haul assignments. You will load and unload goods, perform pre-trip inspections, and maintain safety and compliance with transport regulations.

This role requires 2+ years of driving experience, a Class 1/A license with Air Brakes, and the ability to communicate effectively with dispatch. Frequent travel, varied locations, and a strong commitment to delay-free service are

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years driving experience.
  • Valid Driver's License (Class 1 or A) with Air Brakes Endorsement.
  • Criminal record check and medical exam may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan or adjust routes using GPS and other navigation tools to minimize fuel use.
  • Address customers' complaints or concerns.
  • Load and unload goods and oversee cargo safety.
  • Perform pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspections.
  • Transmit information to central dispatch and keep accurate logs.
  • Maintain vehicle condition and comply with safety regulations.

Tasks
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
  • Address customers' complaints or concerns

  • Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
  • Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle

  • Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
