Job summary

GFL Environmental is seeking a Class 1 Swing Driver to join our Fort St. John, BC team. The role involves operating Roll Off, Front End, Residential and other trucks with a focus on safety, efficiency and excellent service.

As a Swing Driver you will perform pre-trip inspections, manage route times, and work with Dispatchers to ensure reliable daily service. Candidates must have a valid Class 1 license, at least 1 year of commercial driving experience, and a safety-first mindset.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean abstract.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant commercial driving experience.
• Ability to safely operate heavy commercial collection vehicles and hydraulic packers.
• Strong safety commitment and compliance with PPE and company standards.
• Reliable with flexible early-morning start schedules and possible overtime.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate GFL vehicles to complete routes.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections daily.
• Operate hydraulic and compaction systems using proper techniques.
• Report mechanical issues, hazards, or safety incidents promptly.
• Maintain route productivity, vehicle cleanliness, and service quality.
• Comply with traffic laws, bylaws, and PPE standards.
• Collaborate with Dispatchers and Supervisors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Safe Fleet Operation: Safely operate GFL vehicles to complete assigned routes.

• Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections daily and complete required trip logs, paperwork and e-logs.

• System Operations: Skillfully operate hydraulic and compaction systems using proper techniques to prevent equipment damage.

• Reporting & Maintenance: Promptly report any mechanical write-ups, route hazards, or safety incidents to management.

• Service Quality: Maintain high route productivity, customer service standards, and vehicle cleanliness.

• Regulatory Compliance: Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, municipal bylaws, company safety policies, and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.

• Team Collaboration: Work closely with Dispatchers and Supervisors to support smooth, efficient daily operations.

• Additional Duties: Perform other operational duties as assigned by leadership.
