Job summary

GFL Environmental is seeking Spare Drivers for Abbotsford, BC. This on-call role supports Commercial Front End, Roll-Off and Residential Collection across multiple shifts, with no guaranteed hours.

You must have a valid Class 3 license (manual preferred), a clean abstract, CVOR, and at least 1 year of experience or completion of a truck driving program. Expect to work with a modern fleet and participate in safety-focused operations.

Qualifications

• Licensing: Valid Commercial Class 3 Driver’s License (Manual Preferred) with a clean Driver’s Abstract and CVOR.
• Driving Experience: Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience or completion of an accredited truck driving school program.
• Equipment Operation: Safely operate heavy commercial collection vehicles and hydraulic packer systems.
• Safety Commitment: Meet safety-sensitive operational standards.
• Reliability: Strong attendance record and flexibility for early morning start schedules and overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

• Safe Fleet Operation: Operate an Automated Side-Load (ASL) collection truck on residential routes.
• Safety Inspections: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections daily and complete logs.
• Curbside Collection: Collect residential waste and recycling per schedules and safety protocols.
• System Operations: Use hydraulic and compaction systems with proper techniques.
• Reporting & Maintenance: Report mechanical issues, hazards, or safety incidents to management.
• Service Quality: Maintain route productivity, customer service, and vehicle cleanliness.
• Regulatory Compliance: Follow traffic laws, bylaws, safety policies, and PPE standards.
• Team Collaboration: Work with Helpers and Terminal Supervisors to support daily operations.
• Additional Duties: Perform other operational tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections daily and complete required trip logs and paperwork.
• Curbside Collection: Collect residential waste and recycling materials in strict accordance with route schedules and corporate safety protocols.
• System Operations: Skillfully operate hydraulic and compaction systems using proper techniques to prevent equipment damage.
• Reporting & Maintenance: Promptly report any mechanical write-ups, route hazards, or safety incidents to management.
• Service Quality: Maintain high route productivity, customer service standards, and vehicle cleanliness.
• Regulatory Compliance: Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, municipal bylaws, company safety policies, and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with Helpers and Terminal Supervisors to support smooth, efficient daily operations.
• Additional Duties: Perform other operational duties as assigned by leadership.
