Job summary

Intact is seeking a Claims Specialist, Property to join our growing team in Mississauga and Ajax, Ontario. This role focuses on high‑complexity property claims, delivering superior client service and collaborating across claims, underwriting and external specialists to determine coverage and settlements.

You will handle negotiations within authority, gather essential claim information, and support large loss evaluations while staying current on industry practices and policy wording.

Qualifications

• University degree or equivalent in relevant field.
• Minimum 3 years related Property Claims Adjusting experience.
• Solid knowledge of Xactimate for estimating.</p>

Responsibilities

• Investigates, manages, and settles high complexity property claims.
• Provide superior customer service to external and internal customers.
• Analyze information, interpret policy wording, determine coverage and damages.
• Negotiate within authority limits to settle claims and manage costs.
• Gather statements from insureds and third parties to determine eligibility.
• Assist in evaluating and negotiating large losses.
• Anticipate recoveries and direct investigations accordingly.
• Collaborate with claims, underwriting, and external specialists.
• Build relationships with partners, engineers, appraisers, underwriting and legal.
• Maintain file documentation to ensure proper cost control.
• Stay informed on insurance products and appraisal techniques.

Salary range (but not limited to):

94,200 - 115,200

Annual bonus target, based on the base salary, with a potential payout of up to double the target (subject to personal and company performance):

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

About the role

We’re looking for a Claims Specialist, Property to join our growing team in our Mississauga and Ajax offices!

What you’ll do here:

• Investigates, manages, and settles high complexity property claims and various claims.

• Provide a superior quality of customer service to external and internal customers.

• Analyze the information gathered, interpret insurance policy wording, determines coverage, assesses damage.

• Within established authority limits, negotiate with customers, claimants, lawyers, and insurers to settle claims, while managing costs efficiently and effectively

• Gather factual versions of the circumstances of the claim from insureds, third parties and other stakeholders to determine the circumstances, causes and eligibility of claims.

• Assist in the evaluation and negotiation of large losses

• Anticipate recoveries and direct the investigation accordingly.

• Actively collaborate with the various related departments in the claims and underwriting departments, as well as outside specialists.

• Build relationships and collaborate with different teams including our rely partners, engineers, appraisers, underwriting and legal.

• Adhere to company standards and guidelines for file documentation while ensuring sound management of external fees and costs.

• Stay in the know about current insurance products and trends in appraisal and investigation techniques and services.

What you bring to the table:

• University degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role
• A minimum of 3 years related experience in Property Claims Adjusting is required.
• High-level knowledge of the Xactimate
• Comprehensive knowledge of mitigation (IICRC), construction, and repair procedures
• Effective verbal communication skills, with experience in interviewing, coaching others, and dealing with clients
• Good written communications skills to draft claims reports
