CPA PLI is seeking a Professional Liability Claims Specialist. In this role, you'll be exposed to a wide range of accounting firms and diverse challenges facing the profession. You will benefit from and contribute to a unique body of knowledge developed over 35 years dedicated to protecting and defending accounting firms across Canada. This is a dynamic and unique role!

About the Role

As a Professional Lines Claims Specialist, you will manage a portfolio of professional liability insurance claims for our accounting clients. You will serve as an advocate for the accounting profession, providing policyholders with rigorous defense and ensuring prudent cost management.

  1. Assess coverage: Analyze policies to determine coverage availability, identify allegations, and assess coverage applicability.
  2. Investigate: Gather and analyze documentation related to claims, including interviews, evidence, expert reports, and legal pleadings.
  3. Evaluate liability and damages: Collaborate with experts to assess potential liability and damages.
  4. Financial management: Maintain accurate reserves, manage costs, and oversee expenses effectively.
  5. Engage and oversee experts: Coordinate with professionals like accountants, auditors, and legal counsel to support claim resolution.
  6. Mediate, negotiate & settle: Support claim resolution through mediations, negotiations, and other procedures, within company policies and authority limits.
  7. Document: Keep comprehensive records of each claim's events.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

About You

You are an experienced, results-driven professional with empathy, intelligence, and motivation to assist clients through lengthy claims processes. Likely a member of the Chartered Insurance Professional Society (CIP or FCIP), you bring:

  • Over 5 years of experience managing professional liability insurance claims
  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited university; a law degree (LL.B. / J.D.) is an asset
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic, and critical-thinking skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities and creative solutions
  • Effective relationship management, trust-building, discretion, and professionalism
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Office 365 or equivalent software
