Job summary

Desjardins is seeking a lawyer for its Property and Casualty Insurance Defence In-house Legal team across multiple offices, including Toronto area. You will handle a full caseload from start to finish, providing liability and damages assessments, drafting opinions and motions, and representing at LAT hearings and trials.

The role requires seven years of insurance defence experience and a Law Society of Ontario admission.

Qualifications

• Seven years of relevant experience in insurance defence.
• Proven experience with trials and/or arbitrations.
• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage a case load from start to finish.
• Provide liability and damages assessments to claims partners.
• Draft opinions, pleadings and motions.
• Conduct Examinations for Discovery.
• Represent at case-conferences, LAT hearings/arbitrations and trials.

Independently carry a case load of litigation files from start to finish, involving the defence of auto claims, accident benefits, bodily injury, commercial lines, property, subrogation, and coverage work. More specifically, you will be required to:

• You’re skilled at independently carrying a case load of files, from start to finish

What you bring to the table

• Bachelor's degree in law, Juris Doctor or in a related field


• A minimum of seven years of relevant experience, including proven experience in the field of insurance defence


• Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered


• Experience with trials and/or arbitrations


• Experience with Accident Benefits and Bodily Injury


• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
