We are currently seeking a qualified individual to join our dynamic, forward-thinking team of Claims Counsel, Surety professionals in our Toronto office.

CLAIMS COUNSEL, SURETY

The Claims Counsel will be responsible for the management of claims within the Surety and Warranty lines of business. With an LL.B from a recognized university and 2+ years of experience specializing in construction law, you will be responsible for all aspects of the claims process including:

  • Reviewing, interpreting, negotiating and drafting agreements
  • Responding to principals, brokers and claimants
  • Litigation management
  • Negotiation of settlements
  • Authorizing payments as required
  • Providing updates and support to the team of surety underwriters

You will also have the responsibility to investigate, evaluate, and resolve claims directly and in conjunction with internal and external counsel, claims adjusters and consultants.

Qualifications :

  • Membership in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
  • 2+ years’ experience in construction law, banking, insurance or litigation experience; Surety experience is a definite asset, as is in-house claims-handling
  • Fully bilingual in French and English an asset
