Job description

Binnie is seeking a Civil Technologist to join our Ports & Industrial Division, where practical engineering meets real world impact. From concept through construction, our team delivers integrated project management, design, and construction services for complex port and industrial environments. Our work spans underground utilities, industrial wastewater and pumping systems, mechanical piping, dust mitigation, and essential site infrastructure such as paved surfaces, roads, rail, fencing, gates, and on-site facilities, helping our clients operate safely, efficiently, and with confidence for the long term.

This is a full-time position based at our head office near scenic Deer Lake, home to one of Binnie’s largest and most collaborative teams. The role is primarily in office during the probationary period, with the potential for a hybrid arrangement afterward based on performance and business needs.

You are a civil technologist, or recent diploma graduate, who is ready to roll up your sleeves and get involved in hands on project work. You thrive in team environments where expectations are clear, you are comfortable asking questions, and you value collaboration. You bring a solid working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D, along with experience in civil and or mechanical piping design and drafting. You are eager to contribute meaningfully while continuing to grow through mentorship and training.

You will work closely with experienced Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers who value teamwork, quality, and knowledge sharing. Your role will include design and CAD production, thoughtful drawing and file management, site visits, and quality management in line with Binnie’s Organizational Quality Management Policy. With strong technical fundamentals and a practical understanding of the design process, you understand how coordination and teamwork turn good ideas into successful projects. With meaningful work, supportive leadership, and a people first culture, this is an opportunity to build your career while contributing to infrastructure that truly matters.

YOUR ROLE:
  • Preparing AutoCAD and Civil3D designs and drawings and completing design calculations
  • Performing and documenting quality control checks on CAD drafting and Civil 3D work in accordance with Binnie’s Quality Management Program
  • Preparing documentation for design folders and reports
  • Calculating design quantities for materials and preparation of cost estimates
  • Assisting in the preparation of project specifications and contract documents
  • Performing on-site inspection duties
WHAT YOU BRING:
  • 0- 1+ years of experience working with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other applicable software
  • Completed Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field and/or discipline
  • Eligible to register as a Trainee Registrant with ASTTBC or as a Technician/Technologist-in Training (T.T.) with ASET (must be done within first three months of employment)
  • Previous hands-on experience working with Civil 3D
  • Valid Driver’s License and own vehicle for site visits preferred
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients
