Job summary

Binnie seeks a Civil Technologist to join our LAB team in Burnaby or Calgary. You will perform CAD work, collaborate with PMs, Designers and Engineers, and participate in site visits, QC, and delivering design deliverables for municipal, school, and recreation projects.

Qualifications

• Diploma in civil engineering technology from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 4 years of directly related progressive work experience in a professional civil engineering environment.
• Registered as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with ASTTBC or as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET.
• Valid Driver’s License and own vehicle for site visits.

Responsibilities

• Preparing AutoCAD and Civil3D designs and drawings and completing design calculations.
• Complete error-free intermediate-level design calculations and/or verify design calculations prepared by others.
• Perform quality control checks on CAD drafting and Civil 3D work per policies.
• Calculating design quantities for materials and preparation of cost estimates.
• Prepare moderately complex technical reports under supervision.
• Assist in preparing project specifications and contract documents.
• Coordinate with project team and provide guidance; perform on-site inspection duties.

Job description

You are a civil technologist who is ready to roll up your sleeves and get your hands on projects. You perform best in groups where you know what’s expected of you. You’re not afraid to ask questions. You have a solid working knowledge with AutoCAD and Civil3D and are eager to join a team that you can contribute to – and receive mentorship and training to continue to advance your CAD and design skills. You want to learn more about the CAD production, effective drawing file management, the broader design process, and how a team works together to get projects done.

Binnie is looking for a Civil Technologist to join our Landscape Architecture, Recreation and Open Spaces (LAB) team full-time in either our Burnaby or Calgary Office. Our LAB team is a leader in providing planning, design and construction administration services for public open spaces, and outdoor sports & recreation facilities for Municipalities, School Districts, and others throughout Canada.

You will work with our friendly and supportive team of experienced Project Managers, Designers, and Engineers on a wide range of projects. You will carry out design work, CAD assignments, site visits, and quality management according to Binnie’s Organizational Quality Management Policy (OQM). This role offers great mentorship opportunities.

YOUR ROLE:

• Preparing AutoCAD and Civil3D designs and drawings and completing design calculations
• Complete error-free intermediate-level design calculations and/or verify design calculations prepared by others
• Performing and documenting quality control checks on CAD drafting and Civil 3D work in accordance with Binnie’s quality management policies and procedures.
• Calculating design quantities for materials and preparation of cost estimates
• Prepare moderately complex technical reports under the general supervision of more senior project team members
• Assisting in the preparation of project specifications and contract documents
• Coordinate and collaborate with project team members in the production of project deliverables and provide guidance where necessary
• Performing on-site inspection duties

WHAT YOU BRING:

• Minimum of 4 years of directly related progressive work experience in a professional civil engineering environment
• Registered as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with ASTTBC or as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET
• Completed diploma in civil engineering technology or equivalent from an accredited institution
• Familiarity with construction processes with directly related field experience reviewing and evaluating work preferred
• Valid Driver’s License and own vehicle for site visits
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or other applicable software used in their area of Practice
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience; the salary range for this position is $76,760 - $109,700 annually.
