SENIOR-INTERMEDIATE CIVIL/STRUCTURAL PROJECT ENGINEER

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Civil/Structural Project Engineer (Senior/ Intermediate level) to join the Capital Projects team, reporting to the Civil Projects Engineering Lead.
The Civil/Structural Project Engineer will support the execution of civil and structural capital projects and will be responsible for assigned engineering packages. The role will focus on the day-to-day coordination of engineering consultants, review of engineering documentation and consultant designs, preparation of scopes of work (SOW), constructability reviews, and coordination with multiple project stakeholders.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Civil Projects Engineering Lead and will be responsible for managing assigned civil engineering packages through the different phases of project execution.
Mining industry experience is not required. We welcome candidates with industrial building construction backgrounds who are interested in applying their skills in a mining environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Our ideal candidate has:
- Post-secondary education in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Relevant experience in civil/structural engineering and capital project execution in industrial building construction, mining, or heavy construction.
- P.Eng. designation in Canada. Registration may be from Ontario or another Canadian province.
- Demonstrated experience with Building Envelope systems (mandatory requirement)
- Demonstrated experience with prefabricated (Prefab) construction/components (mandatory requirement)
- Strong experience with civil and structural projects.
- Experience reviewing engineering designs, drawings, specifications, calculations, and other technical deliverables prepared by engineering consultants.
- Strong understanding of constructability and demonstrated ability to assess whether engineering designs can be practically constructed.
- Experience coordinating and managing engineering consultants and multidisciplinary project stakeholders.
- Experience preparing and/or reviewing Scopes of Work (SOW).
- Experience supporting engineering packages through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, engineering standards, construction regulations, and other relevant codes and regulations.
- Experience with CAD software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Navisworks, or other relevant engineering software.
- Knowledge of construction regulations; familiarity with mining regulations is an asset but not required.
- Knowledge of the Ontario OH&S Act and applicable regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will include:
- Support the execution of the capital projects portfolio by providing civil and structural discipline support across engineering, procurement, and construction.
- Take ownership of assigned civil engineering packages, including design coordination, documentation, and coordination with multiple stakeholders.
- Coordinate the day-to-day activities of engineering consultants and manage engineering deliverables for assigned packages.
- Review consultants' civil and structural engineering designs, drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
- Participate in constructability reviews and assess whether proposed designs are practical and constructable.
- Identify design or constructability concerns and coordinate with engineering consultants to resolve technical issues.
- Prepare and develop Scopes of Work (SOW) for assigned engineering and construction packages.
- Support work package execution across project phases, including feasibility, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Coordinate interfaces between civil works and other disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, process, and environmental.
- Coordinate with multiple internal and external project stakeholders throughout engineering and project execution.
- Work closely with the Senior Civil Projects Engineering Lead on technical issues, design decisions, and roadblocks associated with assigned packages.
- Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, regulations, project requirements, and internal engineering practices.
- Provide civil/structural technical support to the construction team and assist in resolving field engineering and constructability issues during execution.
- Support the development and maintenance of scope definitions, work breakdown structures (WBS), schedules, and execution plans for assigned packages.
- Support the development of project estimates and preparation and submission of Applications for Expenditures (AFEs).
- Collaborate with the procurement group on scopes of work, tenders, technical bid evaluations, contractor selection, and contract administration.
- Monitor assigned packages for scope, schedule, cost, technical, and execution risks and elevate significant issues to the Senior Civil Projects Engineering Lead.
- Collaborate with Project Controls and Cost Control personnel to support schedule and budget compliance.
- Support commissioning, turnover, documentation, and project closeout activities.
- Share and implement engineering best practices and process improvement opportunities.
Hybrid Rotation:
Phase 1 (2026 and 2027) - Sudbury Office and work from home (3-week rotation)
-Work in downtown Sudbury: Monday to Thursday (Approximately 10-11 hours per day)
-Friday to Sunday: Days off.
Week 3:
-Work from home: Monday to Friday. Approximately 10-11 hours per day.
Phase 2 (currently anticipated to be in 2028) - Mine site and work from home
Week 1 and Week 3:
-Work at the mine site: Monday to Thursday. Approximately 10-11 hours per day
Week 2 and Week 4:
-Work from home: Monday to Thursday and potentially Friday (2 hours).
