Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 6 months to 2 years of relevant experience in materials, geotechnical, or related fields.
• Registered or eligible for Engineer-in-Training (APEGA).
• Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's licence with a clean record.
• Strong written and verbal English communication.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work outdoors.
• CSA-approved safety boots and commitment to safe practices.
• Ability to work across field, laboratory and office environments.
• Excellent organization and multitasking skills.

Responsibilities

Your Impact

• Support civil, materials, and geotechnical engineering projects across a variety of sectors.
  
• Perform construction monitoring activities, including excavations, subgrade inspections, shallow foundation inspections, and pile installation monitoring (cast-in-place concrete, driven steel, and other foundation systems).
  
• Participate in geotechnical drilling programs, soil logging, and field investigations.
  
• Assist project managers and technical staff with site investigations, data collection, and project coordination.
  
• Prepare field reports and contribute to the development of geotechnical reports, technical memoranda, and proposals.
  
• Conduct laboratory testing and analysis as required.
  
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality technical services to clients.
  
• Travel to project sites throughout Alberta, with opportunities to support projects across Canada based on business needs and individual interest.
  
• Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve field-related challenges efficiently and professionally.
  
• Represent WSP in the field with professionalism, technical competence, and integrity.
  

The Skills that Set You Apart

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  
• 6 months to 2 years of relevant experience, including internships, co-op placements, or summer employment in materials engineering, geotechnical engineering, consulting, construction, geological fieldwork, or resource development projects.
  
• Registered, or eligible for registration, as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
  
• Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's licence (or equivalent) with a satisfactory driving record.
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  
• Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and challenging terrain.
  
• Physically capable of lifting equipment and hiking on active construction and remote project sites.
  
• Willingness to travel regularly to project locations.
  
• CSA-approved safety boots and commitment to safe work practices.
  
• Ability to work effectively in field, laboratory, and office environments.
  
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project demands.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $32.20 - $43.30 per hour

MB & ON: $29.40 - $41.00 per hour

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $29.10 - $39.20 per hour
