Job summary

Forbes Bros. Group of Companies is seeking a Distribution Civil Foreman to supervise and direct a field crew on distribution construction projects across Canada.

You will establish work sequences, coordinate materials, and ensure safety, quality, and adherence to plans, specifications, and standards. The role requires hands‑on leadership, field problem‑solving, and coordination with multiple trades to maintain project progress and site safety.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in civil construction, preferably within utility, electrical distribution, telecommunications, or related infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising a construction crew.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Experience with distribution civil construction, including excavation, trenching, foundations, concrete, pole bases, underground infrastructure, duct banks, and site restoration.
  • Experience operating and/or overseeing the safe use of construction equipment and tools.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and jobsite coordination.
  • Ability to identify constructability issues and develop practical field solutions.
  • Experience working around active utility infrastructure is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams is considered an asset.

  • Analyze and quickly resolve field issues and ensure deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Identify and communicate constructability concerns clearly and promptly.
  • Coordinate activities with other crews, subcontractors, utilities, and trades to ensure smooth project execution and transitions.
  • Conduct and support quality control inspections to ensure work meets project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety requirements, applicable legislation, codes, and customer requirements.
  • Lead by example and promote a strong safety culture on all job sites.
  • Provide direction, instruction, coaching, and mentoring to crew members and developing construction personnel.
  • Monitor productivity and work progress and communicate updates, delays, material requirements, and other project concerns to project management.
  • Ensure proper care, maintenance, and use of company tools, vehicles, materials, and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite.
  • Willingness to perform hands‑on field work as required.

Position Summary

The Distribution Civil Foreman is responsible for supervising and directing a crew of construction workers, apprentices, laborers, and equipment operators on distribution construction projects. The Foreman will establish and adjust work schedules to support project timelines, organize and coordinate required materials, manpower, and equipment, and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, on budget, and in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, codes, customer requirements, and industry standards. The Distribution Civil Foreman will provide hands‑on leadership in the field, coordinate daily construction activities, identify and resolve issues, and ensure work is completed to the required quality and project standards.

  • Ability to lead, instruct, train, and mentor workers.
  • Experience working around active utility infrastructure is considered an asset.

Additional Details
This Position Requires Candidates To
  • Successfully complete pre‑employment and/or pre‑access drug and alcohol testing where required for site access.
  • Travel to various project locations and work extended hours, overtime, weekends, or shifts as required by project schedules.
  • Work safely in a physically demanding construction environment.
  • Follow all company, customer, and site‑specific safety policies and procedures.
  • Work around heavy equipment, excavation activities, overhead and underground utilities, and active construction sites.

The range shown is the expected base pay range for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on role requirements, experience, qualifications, work location, applicable project/site requirements, internal equity, and any applicable collective agreement or union requirements. This range does not include overtime, premiums, per diem / LOA, bonuses, benefits, or other forms of compensation unless specifically stated in the job posting.

Base Pay Range: $60.47 CAD - $60.47 CAD
