Job summary

The City of Toronto is seeking a Civil Engineering Technologist (CET) to support the City's Capital Works Program in design and construction of municipal infrastructure, primarily roads, sewers, watermains and TTC streetcar tracks, as both a Team Lead and Lead Designer.

Reporting to the Manager of Special Projects, you will prepare detailed designs, coordinate with utilities, assist in tender preparation, and mentor junior staff while ensuring City standards and green infrastructure principles

Qualifications

• Graduate in Civil Engineering Technology or approved equivalent.
• Extensive experience in the engineering design related to municipal infrastructure (roads, sewers, watermains).
• Experience utilizing Computer Aided Design and Drafting (Bentley Suite or equivalent) and MS Office in design environments (landscape, green infrastructure, arborist services).
• Experience in coordination, monitoring and tracking the status of designs.
• Valid Ontario Driver's License Class "G" and eligible to operate city vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations and inventories; inspect construction to ensure adherence to approved designs with green infrastructure elements.
• Develop and maintain RFPs for arborist services to support in-house design and construction services.
• Reviews designs (final plans, shop drawings, site constructions) for completeness and conformity to City standards.
• Coordinate, monitor, track engineering data and project status for the Capital Works Program and Special Projects.
• Prepare and review engineering data, contract drawings and input diagrams; support field notes and research materials.
