McElhanney Ltd. in Surrey is offering a 4-month internship in Municipal Engineering starting January 2027, with hands-on experience from design to construction. You’ll work with multidisciplinary teams and gain exposure to the full project lifecycle.

You’ll collaborate with engineers, conduct field inspections, and use AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit while learning safety practices and client-focused delivery in a supportive, developmental environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Diploma or Degree program in Civil Engineering.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit or related software is an asset.
• Excellent attention to detail and clear communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Engineers and Project Managers to develop designs from conceptual to detailed stages using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Conduct field inspections for infrastructure construction and liaise with contractors on client sites.
• Ensure schedules, budgets, quality control, and safety standards are met and maintained.
• Gain exposure to McElhanney services including materials testing, construction management, municipal infrastructure, transportation, water resources, geotechnical, bridge, and structural engineering.
• Participate in safety practices to meet client needs and keep teams safe.

What You’ll Do

• Participate in McElhanney’s industry-leading safety practices to exceed client needs while ensuring our teams Think Safe, Work Safe, and Get Home Safe.

Practice Areas You’ll Focus On

As part of your internship, you’ll gain practical exposure to municipal engineering and see how civil infrastructure supports growing communities. Working alongside experienced engineers and project teams, you’ll contribute to real-world projects that may include roadways, utilities, water distribution, drainage, and other community infrastructure.

What You’ll Bring

• Enrolled in a Diploma or Degree program in Civil Engineering.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit or related software is an asset.
• Excellent attention to detail, sound judgment, and clear communication skills.
• Willing to work in varied environmental conditions, able to work in wildlife populated areas, and willing to work in remote areas for extended periods and varied hours.
• Commutable distance to Surrey, BC.

The salary range for this position is $23-$32 per hour. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
