Job summary

EMS-Tech Inc. in Burnaby seeks a rising Civil Engineering student for a co-op internship to contribute to CAD drafting, structural analysis, and design of bulk material handling equipment.

You will gain hands-on experience with CAD drafting, PLC programming, VFD drives, and electrical design across international projects. This onsite role runs May 2027 to May 2028, ~40 hours/week, with potential travel to Ontario head office and global project sites to observe and participate in cutting-edge

Qualifications

• Rising Civil Engineering student in 3rd or 4th year of study.
• Willing to spend 12-14ths in our internship program.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively across business units and to different levels of management.

Responsibilities

• Take conceptual designs and complete analysis and calculation details to satisfy project needs and specifications.
• Develop 2D and 3D CAD drafting skills and produce drawings to EMS-Tech Inc. standards.
• Gain exposure to EMS-Tech Inc. equipment and analysis methods, including steel codes and welding codes.
• Develop analytical skills using structural modelling software and finite element analysis techniques.
• Develop ability to size/select mechanical components and perform connection checks.
• Prepare and check general arrangement and detailed drawings.
• Apply engineering science to daily work.
