Job summary

Binnie is seeking an Engineering Assistant in the Traffic Engineering Division in Burnaby for the January to August 2027 work term. You’ll work with senior engineers on design management, traffic engineering and field assignments.

This role offers mentorship in a collaborative team and opportunities to contribute to real projects like Pattullo Bridge and Broadway Subway Line, with exposure to AutoCAD and Civil 3D in a student-friendly environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Civil Engineering degree (3rd year preferred).
• Experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D preferred.
• Valid driver's license an asset.
• Willingness to work outdoors on-site.

Responsibilities

• Modify basic design drawings in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Complete field assignments as required by Project Managers.
• Perform design calculations as required by Project Managers and Engineers.
• Prepare technical reports under supervision.
• Plot, assemble, and deliver drawing submission packages.
• Prepare project documentation and file transfers.
• Maintain file naming and layer management conventions.
• Complete quality control procedures.

Job description

You’re a civil engineering student who’s ready to get your hands on a real engineering project. You perform best in groups where you know what’s expected of you. You’re not afraid to ask questions. You make—and own—your decisions. You want to learn more about the design process, and how a team works together to get projects done.

Binnie is looking for an Engineering Assistant to join our Traffic Engineering Division, which provides traffic engineering services for traffic operations reviews, traffic safety studies, traffic modelling and analysis, transportation planning reports, and traffic management studies. Some recent assignments include traffic engineering support on the Owner’s Engineer Team for the Pattullo Bridge Replacement and Fraser River Tunnel Projects, traffic management support on the Broadway Subway Line, and traffic modelling support for TransLink’s new rapid bus lines.

The position is in our Burnaby office, located near scenic Deer Lake, for the January to August 2027 work term. There may be an opportunity to extend the work term depending on project requirements.

You will be working with some of the most experienced senior technical experts in the industry, Senior Project Managers and Engineers on interesting design management, traffic engineering and field assignments. You will be a member of our diverse team in a challenging role that offers mentorship opportunities.

Your Role

• Modifying basic design drawings in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Completing field assignments as required by Project Managers
• Performing design calculations as required by Project Managers and Engineers
• Preparing technical reports under the direction of Project Managers and Engineers
• Plotting, assembling, and delivering drawing submission packages
• Preparing project documentation including hard copy and electronic file transfers
• Maintaining file naming and layer management conventions set by Binnie
• Completing quality control procedures

What You Bring

• Previous work experience in a civil engineering environment is preferred.
• Currently completing Degree in Civil Engineering (3rd year student or equivalent preferred)
• Previous exposure to AutoCAD and Civil 3D is preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License to conduct site visits as required (an asset but not required)
• Willing to work outdoors on-site as required
• Ability to consistently produce accurate, high-quality work
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience; the salary range for this position is $24.60 - $26.60 hourly.
