Origin is a forensic investigation firm specializing in post-loss investigations across fire, electrical, civil and mechanical engineering. The role focuses on technical investigations into origin and cause of events in buildings, with emphasis on clear, evidence-based conclusions.

The successful candidate holds a Civil Engineering degree, is a member of the Quebec Order, and has 5–7 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Member of a professional order in Quebec.
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience (building structures, environmental, building construction, and loss assessment).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in French.
  • Aptitude for and interest in technical and hands-on work.
  • Ability to participate in promotional activities and maintain the company’s professional network.
  • Availability for training in Canada and the United States, as well as for sharing technical knowledge among experts.
  • Good command of spoken and written English (an asset).

Responsibilities

Job description

Origin is a forensic investigation firm specializing in post-loss investigations in fire and electrical, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, materials, metallurgy and chemistry. Our multidisciplinary team of engineers, chemists and technologists examines incidents objectively, working closely with all stakeholders to establish the facts, determine causes and set out clear, evidence-based conclusions that make informed technical, legal and insurance decisions possible.

Primary Role

The primary and customary role of the civil engineer is to conduct technical investigations into the origin and cause of events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct laboratory examinations and simulations to verify explanatory hypotheses;

  • Review technical documents and standards;

Working Conditions
  • Permanent position: 35 hours per week – remote work option available;
