Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Civil Engineer-in-Training to join our growing practice in Yellowknife or Whitehorse. This role offers a hybrid work environment with in-office presence as project needs dictate and team collaboration drives success.

You will contribute to planning, design, and delivery of northern infrastructure projects, with emphasis on roads, drainage, water, and municipal systems. The senior team will mentor you to grow skills across disciplines and regions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 1–2 years Civil engineering experience preferred.
• Registered as an EIT or able to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform civil engineering design with AutoCAD Civil3D for water/sewer, roadways, and site developments.
• Conduct field work and supervision of junior staff during peak seasons.
• Collaborate with other disciplines under a project manager's guidance.
• Carry out calculations and verifications to ensure design integrity and codes compliance.
• Support data collection and design decision processes.

Stantec is seekinga Civil Engineer-in-Training to join our growing engineering practice in Yellowknife or Whitehorse.

Opportunity provides for a hybrid work environment. In office presence is expectedbased on project needs, client meetings, and team collaboration.

Your Key Responsibilities

• With guidance, perform civil engineering design using knowledge of relevant software programs primarily AutoCAD Civil3D including underground utilities (water/sewer conveyance using pipe networks), roadways (alignments using corridors), and site developments (using surface and grading commands).
• Perform significant field work/review services related to construction administration and surveying related activities (up to 90% field work during peak seasons), including the supervision of junior field staff when required.
• Works with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the completion of the project under the direction of a project coordinator or project manager.
• Performs calculations to analyze and design civil system components using company standard software.
• Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity and size
• Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.
• Assists in basic interpretation and verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
• Performs a variety of tasks which may include analyzing proposed project solutions to ensure design integrity, reliability, resource efficiently and cost effectiveness.
• Performs other duties as assigned by project managers or supervisor.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Understanding of concepts of relevant areas of civil engineering design.
• Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, and other similar material.
• Strong organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
• Experience and a willingness to undertake construction reviews is also required.
• Requires understanding and proficiency of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Basic understanding of topographic or construction layout surveying.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Possession of a valid driver license.
• Physical ability to work in various environmental conditions with varied terrain with the ability to lift/carry heavy equipment weighing up to 50lbs.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
• Minimum of 1-2 years of Civil engineering experience preferred
• Registered as an EIT or ability to obtain within the next 6 months

Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
