Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Civil Engineer-in-Training to join our growing engineering practice in Yellowknife or Whitehorse. Opportunity provides for a hybrid work environment.

In office presence is expected based on project needs, client meetings, and team collaboration. This role supports delivering transportation and municipal projects across the North, with duties ranging from design using AutoCAD Civil 3D to field reviews, data collection, and coordination with officials and multidisciplinary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• 1–2 years Civil engineering experience preferred.
• Registered as an EIT or able to obtain within 6 months.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• With guidance, perform civil design using AutoCAD Civil3D including underground utilities, roadways, and site developments.
• Perform significant field work and review services related to construction administration and surveying (up to 90% field work).
• Supervise junior field staff when required.
• Work with other disciplines under a project coordinator or project manager.
• Perform calculations to analyze and design civil system components using standard software.
• Assist with engineering duties on projects of varying complexity and size.
• Assist in collecting data and information to support design decisions.
• Assist in interpreting and verifying compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Perform tasks to ensure design integrity, reliability, resource efficiency and cost effectiveness.
• Perform other duties as assigned by project managers or supervisor.

Your Key Responsibilities

• With guidance, perform civil engineering design using knowledge of relevant software programs primarily AutoCAD Civil3D including underground utilities (water/sewer conveyance using pipe networks), roadways (alignments using corridors), and site developments (using surface and grading commands).
• Perform significant field work/review services related to construction administration and surveying related activities (up to 90% field work during peak seasons), including the supervision of junior field staff when required.
• Works with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the completion of the project under the direction of a project coordinator or project manager.
• Performs calculations to analyze and design civil system components using company standard software.
• Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity and size
• Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.
• Assists in basic interpretation and verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
• Performs a variety of tasks which may include analyzing proposed project solutions to ensure design integrity, reliability, resource efficiently and cost effectiveness.
• Performs other duties as assigned by project managers or supervisor.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Understanding of concepts of relevant areas of civil engineering design.
• Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, and other similar material.
• Strong organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
• Experience and a willingness to undertake construction reviews is also required.
• Requires understanding and proficiency of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Basic understanding of topographic or construction layout surveying.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Possession of a valid driver license.
• Physical ability to work in various environmental conditions with varied terrain with the ability to lift/carry heavy equipment weighing up to 50lbs.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
• Minimum of 1-2 years of Civil engineering experience preferred
• Registered as an EIT or ability to obtain within the next 6 months
