Job summary

Strum Consulting is expanding our Civil Engineering Division and has an opening in our Antigonish or Halifax office for a Civil Engineer-in-Training to join our team. The role involves assisting in design, drawings, and project delivery across civil, structural, and municipal projects.

You’ll work with surveyors, engineers, technicians, environmental scientists, and biologists, contributing to client meetings, proposals, and business development while building proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent training.
  • Engineer in Training or Professional Engineer, licensed or eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • Strong academic record is an asset.
  • Applicable experience is an asset.
  • Consulting background is an asset.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team with surveyors, engineers, technicians, and scientists.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Strum’s health and safety program and ensure procedures are followed.
  • Assist in design and preparation of engineering drawings, plans, reports, sketches and diagrams.
  • Assist in development of drawings, specifications, estimates, and contract documents.
  • Assist in preparation of as-built drawings reflecting changes to original design.
  • Prepare engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Undertake site visits to review construction work and prepare reports.
  • Attend weekly internal meetings and coordinate with team members for timely delivery.
  • Provide clear reporting to supervisors and participate in client meetings and proposals.
  • Develop competency with design programs including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Word, and Excel.

  • Strong attention to detail, motivation, and excellent communications skills.
  • Possess professional demeanour and communicate with excellent verbal and written skills in English.
What You’ll Do
  • Adhere to Strum’s health and safety program and ensure safety procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Assist in the design and the preparation of engineering drawings, plans, reports, sketches and diagrams for a variety of civil, structural, and municipal engineering projects.
  • Assist in the development of engineering drawings, specifications, estimates, and contract documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings reflecting alterations to original design.
  • Prepare engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Undertake site visits to review construction work and prepare construction review reports.
  • Attend and participate in weekly internal project meetings with the Engineering Division and coordinate with team members to ensure efficient and timely delivery of projects within the schedule.
  • Provide clear and concise reporting to supervisors.
  • Participate in client meetings, proposal writing, and assist in driving business development.
  • Develop increasing competency with design programs including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Word and Excel, through continuing education, training, information sharing with other employees and self-directed study.
  • Support existing teams while demonstrating ability to work independently and as part of a larger close-knit team.
