Job summary

Aplin Martin is seeking an experienced Design Engineer for our Vancouver office. The successful candidate will prepare construction drawings and coordinate design within a multidisciplinary team to deliver land development and capital works projects.

Responsibilities include design calculations, topographic interpretation, and preparation of tender documents, with mentoring provided to junior designers. Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package are offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of local design experience in land development or capital works.
• Registered as an EIT or P.Eng in the province of work.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to work simultaneously on several different projects.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledgeable of tender preparation and construction administration is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D for land development and capital works.
• Provide input to Project Managers for fee proposals.
• Prepare and review design calculations; interpret topographic information.
• Coordinate site and lot grading and earthworks balancing/optimization.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and cost estimates; compile as-built records.
• Prepare contract documents for tendering and support during construction; assist with contract administration.
• Mentor junior team members and support design coordination within a multidisciplinary group.

The Opportunity

An opportunity currently exists in our Vancouver office for an experienced Design Engineer. The successful candidate will be required to prepare construction drawings/documents, assist in the coordination of design and specifications within the context of a multidisciplinary design team.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Preparation of detailed engineering drawings (primarily using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related applications) for a variety of land development and capital works projects.
• Provide input to Project Managers for the preparation of fee proposals.
• Prepare and review design calculations in accordance with current standards.
• Interpretation of topographic information required for design.
• Site and lot grading and earthworks balancing/optimization.
• Preparation of quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
• Preparation of reports, letters, memos and other project correspondence.
• Answer technical enquiries during the construction of the project.
• Provide some direction and mentoring to junior members of the design team.
• Compilation of as-built records for design and record drawings.
• Preparation of contract documents for project tendering and execution of the project design drawings, and;
• Contract administration during the construction phase.

Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum 3years of local experience in design of land development or capital works projects.
• Registered as an EIT or P.Eng. within the province of work.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to work simultaneously on several different projects.
• Consistently able to produce accurate, high-quality work.
• Comfortable carrying out design work with limited supervision.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledgeable of technical design issues, constructability, cost, and design approvals.
• Knowledgeable of tender preparation with construction administration experience preferred.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $105,000 per year, commensurate with experience, skillsets, and qualifications.
