Job summary

Aplin Martin is a full-service civil engineering, architecture, planning, environmental and survey firm based in Canada, with an Oakville office hiring for a Junior Civil Engineering Designer. The role involves creating construction drawings, coordinating multidisciplinary design work, and supporting land development, municipal projects and site plans.

The successful candidate will work within a team, use Civil 3D for detailed designs, and contribute to stormwater, grading, and utility plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent accreditation.
• 1–2 years of land development or municipal design experience preferred.
• Internships relevant to civil engineering projects are a plus.
• Experience with commercial, subdivisions and site plan design is desirable.
• Strong work ethic with motivation to succeed and ability to manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed design drawings using Civil 3D for land development and municipal projects.
• Assist in road design and final grading for urban residential developments.
• Develop engineering drawings for land development and water resources projects.
• Coordinate design with multidisciplinary team including architects and engineers.
• Prepare contract documents for tenders and grant submittals.
• Prepare servicing, stormwater management and site development drawings.
• Provide quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for project phases.
• Compile as-built records and support site plan processes.

Position Overview:

An opportunity currently exists in ourOakvilleoffice for a Junior CivilEngineeringDesigner. The successful candidate(s) willbe requiredto prepare construction drawings/documents,assistin the coordination of design and specifications within the context of a multidisciplinary design team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare detailed design drawings (primarily using Civil 3D, and related applications) for a variety of assignedLand Development and Municipalengineering projects.
• Preparing road design and final grading for urban residential development projects.
• Developing engineering drawings and designs for land development and related water resources projects.
• Participating in full-service design of Civil/Municipal engineering projects
• Stormwater management,sitegrading, sanitary sewer and water distribution system design for subdivision and land development engineering projects
• Interpret topographic informationrequiredfor design.
• Performsiteandlotgrading.
• Complete the technical analysis of municipal infrastructure components.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
• Compile as-built records for design and record drawings; and
• Prepare contract documents for project tendering and execute project design drawings.
• Prepare grading, servicing, erosion and sediment control plans, details, and technical drawings in AutoCAD Civil 3D for municipal infrastructure, land development, and site developmental projects.
• Prepare Functional Servicing and Stormwater Management Reports in support of Zoning By-law Amendment andSitePlan Application.
• Prepare water/wastewater servicing calculations for proposed land development projects.
• Prepare stormwater management quantity and quality calculations.
• Coordinate design with consultant team including but not limitedto:architect, landscape architect, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, traffic consultant, hydrogeologist, and geotechnical engineer.
• Prepare formal response letters to approving agencies addressing development engineering comments.

Skills and Qualifications:

• A Civil Engineering Degree from an Accredited Institution.
• 1-2years of land developmentand ormunicipal design experience.
• RelevantInternships.
• Experience in Commercial, Subdivisions andSitePlanDesign.
• Strong workethicand motivation tosucceed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skillsandmust be well organized to be able to prioritize multiple tasks anddemonstratea flexible approach to work assignments.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $80,000 per year, commensurate with experience, skillsets, and qualifications.
