Job summary

Hazelwood Construction Services Inc. is seeking a seasoned Civil Construction Safety Officer for BC-wide projects, including Run of River hydroelectric upgrades. The role involves extensive travel and long stays in remote locations with LOAs provided.

A strong safety background and COR readiness are essential for safeguarding workers and site operations. You will implement safety plans, lead investigations, manage training, and ensure compliance while coordinating with clients and unions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma minimum; post-secondary education in Safety preferred.
• Recognized safety designation (CSO, NCSO, or equivalent).
• Valid OFA Level 3 (LVIII) certification.
• Strong MS Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Implement and enforce the OH&S Management Plan.
• Promote a proactive safety culture across all teams.
• Maintain site training records and develop site-specific safety procedures.
• Conduct safety observations, inspections, and daily safety meetings.
• Lead incident investigations and manage corrective actions.
• Maintain safety documentation, statistics, and incident registers.
• Coordinate equipment and vehicle inspections.
• Deliver orientations for new workers.
• Perform LV III first aid duties and maintain related records.
• Inspect and restock first aid equipment.
• Conduct rigging and fall protection inspections.
• Manage and distribute PPE.
• Liaise with client safety representatives.
• Support COR compliance and prep for audits.
• Participate in monthly safety meetings and anticipate upcoming safety needs.
