Job summary

Knappett Industries seeks a Civil Construction Foreman for ongoing projects in Port Alberni and Nanaimo, BC. The role requires leading field teams, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring safety and schedule adherence across multi-site projects.

Qualified candidates will have strong leadership, excellent communication, and at least 5+ years in civil construction. Travel between the Island projects is required; a valid driver’s license is necessary.

Responsibilities

• Direct field operations ensuring schedules, budgets, safety and risk are managed.
• Provide senior level presence, mentor field staff and perform succession planning.
• Organize trucking and subtrades on site; interface with client and other contractors.
• Maintain daily written jobsite log and ensure quality and safety standards are met.
• Coordinate inspections and ensure subcontractor compliance with contracted scope of work.

Responsibilities:

• Follow all safety protocols and contribute to the success of the safety program.
• Direct field operations in the delivery of projects by adhering to schedules, budgets, safety, and risk.
• Ensure material receiving reports are completed in a timely manner after deliveries.
• Effectively manage field employees by providing guidance and leadership on construction activities and developing effective communication between field and other project staff.
• Develop and execute project work plans aimed at keeping projects on track and on budget.
• Provide senior level presence in the field, coach field staff on issue resolution, review site labour requirements, mentor field staff and perform succession planning.
• Work directly with PM’s to identify changes in work.
• Organize and manage trucking and sub trades on site.
• Interface with the client and other contractors on site.
• Perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work being performed.
• Communicate with project team regarding Site Instructions, Requests for Information, and Material Submittals.
• Ensure that subcontractor is fully executing and complying with their contracted scope of work.
• Coordinate required inspections with local, jurisdictions and/or authorities.
• Identify subcontractor non-compliance with safety, health, and environmental quality standards.
• Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to the project team for resolution.
• Maintain daily log (written) of activities on the jobsite.
• Ensure subcontractor has corrected all deficiencies identified by the project team.
• Walk all areas of the project daily to monitor activities and assist in future planning.
• Preside over weekly subcontractor meetings designed to coordinate the work.
• Issue notices of non-compliance to subcontractors in regards to quality of work or scheduling.
• Ensure that the job site is always kept in a clean and organized manner.
• Perform job progress and completion punch list identification and completion.
• To have a complete knowledge and understanding of the General Contract across all division of work.

Requirements:

• Ability to read and interpret civil and foundation drawings.
• In-depth knowledge of civil construction procedures, equipment and OH&S guidelines.
• 5+ years’ experience in civil construction.
• Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and supervisory skills.
• Positive attitude and works well with others.
• Professional demeanour when dealing with the public, crew, and clients.
• Able to work outside in all-weather at all times of the year.
• Physically fit and able to lift 50 pounds or more.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to read and understand specifications.
