Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a Residential Driver in Toronto to operate heavy collection equipment on assigned routes, perform pre-trip inspections, and ensure safe, efficient service to the community.

You will work with a team to collect residential waste and recycling while upholding safety standards and company policies. The role requires a valid DZ or AZ license with a clean CVOR, at least 1 year of commercial driving experience or completion of an accredited truck driving program, and

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (DZ or AZ) with a clean Abstract and CVOR.
• Ability to safely operate heavy collection vehicles and hydraulic packer systems.
• Strong safety commitment and reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Safe fleet operation on assigned residential routes.
• Perform daily safety inspections and document trip logs.
• Collect residential waste and recycling per route schedules.
• Operate hydraulic and compactor systems safely.
• Report mechanical issues and safety concerns promptly.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and productive routes.
• Comply with traffic laws, safety policies, and PPE requirements.
• Collaborate with Helpers and Supervisors to keep operations running smoothly.

Requirements:

• Licensing: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (DZ or AZ) with a clean Driver’s Abstract and CVOR.

• Driving Experience: Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience (or completion of an accredited truck driving school program).

• Equipment Operation : Demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy commercial collection vehicles and hydraulic packer systems.

• Safety Commitment : Ability to successfully satisfy all company standards for safety-sensitive operational roles.

• Reliability : Strong attendance record and flexibility to support early morning start schedules and operational overtime when needed.

Responsibilities:

• Safe Fleet Operation : Safely operate a Rear Pack truck along assigned residential routes.

• Safety Inspections : Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections daily and complete required trip logs and paperwork.

• Curbside Collection : Collect residential waste and recycling materials in strict accordance with route schedules and corporate safety protocols.

• System Operations : Skillfully operate hydraulic and compaction systems using proper techniques to prevent equipment damage.

• Reporting & Maintenance : Promptly report any mechanical write-ups, route hazards, or safety incidents to management.

• Service Quality : Maintain high route productivity, customer service standards, and vehicle cleanliness.

• Regulatory Compliance : Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, municipal bylaws, company safety policies, and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.

• Team Collaboration : Work closely with Helpers and Terminal Supervisors to support smooth, efficient daily operations.

• Additional Duties: Perform other operational duties as assigned by leadership.
