Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a dedicated Residential Driver to operate automated side-load trucks on residential routes. You will perform daily safety inspections, ensure logs are completed, and collect waste and recyclables in line with schedules and safety protocols.

The role requires a valid Ontario DZ or higher license with a clean record, at least one year of commercial driving experience (or completion of a truck driving program), and a strong commitment to safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (DZ or higher) in Ontario with a clean Driver’s Abstract and CVOR.
• Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience (or completion of an accredited truck driving school).
• Demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy collection vehicles and hydraulic packer systems.
• Ability to meet safety-sensitive operational standards and maintain compliance.
• Strong attendance and flexibility for early start times and overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate an Automated Side-Load (ASL) collection truck on assigned residential routes.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections daily and complete required logs.
• Collect residential waste and recyclables per route schedules and safety protocols.
• Operate hydraulic and compaction systems with proper techniques to prevent damage.
• Promptly report any mechanical issues, route hazards, or safety incidents to supervision.
• Maintain high route productivity, customer service standards, and vehicle cleanliness.
• Adhere to traffic laws, bylaws, safety policies, and PPE requirements.
• Coordinate with Helpers and Terminal Supervisors to support daily operations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Requirements

• Licensing: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (DZ or above in Ontario) with a clean Driver’s Abstract and CVOR.
• Driving Experience: Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience (or completion of an accredited truck driving school program).

• Curbside Collection: Collect residential waste and recycling materials in strict accordance with route schedules and corporate safety protocols.
• System Operations: Skillfully operate hydraulic and compaction systems using proper techniques to prevent equipment damage.
• Reporting & Maintenance: Promptly report any mechanical write-ups, route hazards, or safety incidents to management.
• Service Quality: Maintain high route productivity, customer service standards, and vehicle cleanliness.
• Regulatory Compliance: Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, municipal bylaws, company safety policies, and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with Helpers and Terminal Supervisors to support smooth, efficient daily operations.
• Additional Duties: Perform other operational duties as assigned by leadership.
