Job Description: Position Purpose summary

The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is part of a century old tradition to contribute towards building strong communities by helping TSA to give hope to others. Serve as a positive ambassador for The Salvation Army by monitoring a Christmas Kettle while engaging with donors, answering questions about programs and services, and ensuring the security of donations during assigned kettle shifts.

Accountabilities
  • Remain at the Kettle for the full shift (until relieved), ensuring security of donations received.
  • Respond to questions/queries from potential donors regarding SA ministries and programs.
  • Present a positive image (well-groomed/dressed) and represent TSA well while on duty.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Reports directly to Director, Family Care Centre. Direct reports: n/a.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT
  • Collect donations and petty cash and ensure donations are always kept secure.
Working Conditions

Must be willing and able to work shifts that may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per the Christmas Kettle Campaign operational requirements. Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification. Local travel may be associated with this position. Work environment is typically in malls/stores. Standing for long periods will be required and exposure to cold weather.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications
  • Completed High School or equivalent
Skills and Capabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Reliable transportation to kettle location.
  • Able to lift 9 to 12 kgs (20 - 25 lbs).
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Honest, courteous, and punctual; represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
  • Strong customer service skills; enjoy liaising and working with people of all ages and abilities.
  • Willingness to be flexible and work well under pressure with daily timelines and changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donors, volunteer, and organizational information.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.03 with a maximum of $25.23. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
