Relief Childcare Professionals work closely with team members to ensure effective childcare operations and support an inclusive early learning environment. This position supports the emotional, social and physical development of children ages 0 to 5 years old.
We are looking for individuals with flexibility to work 2 to 3 days per week (8 hours per day).
YW Kids operates Monday to Friday, 7:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and we are located at 1715 – 17 Avenue SE Calgary.

What You’ll Do
- Provide attuned and responsive day-to-day care, guidance and programming for children in a safe, secure and consistent team environment.
- Implement programming that supports child development through play.
- Maintain a child-friendly, stimulating playroom environment with age-appropriate games and activities.
- Interact and relate to children in a developmentally appropriate manner and encourage their involvement in outdoor and indoor activities.
- Demonstrate flexibility and provide care in a manner that is sensitive to individual child differences, interests and needs; adjust care and tailor activities to meet those interests and needs.
- Allow children to lead play and be autonomous in making decisions.
- Ensure children’s health, safety and well-being through constant and effective supervision.
- Maintain daily attendance and administrative records according to program and licensing standards.
- Establish and foster relationships with families; maintain strong communication with parents daily using Lillio, notes and/or verbally.
- Maintain an understanding of the Canada Food Guidelines (CFG) and verify that meals and snacks are in compliance with the Canada Food Guide.
- Oversee meal and snack time activities; provide diapering and toileting support.
- Foster and contribute to a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse work environment; understand and recognize that individual differences significantly contribute to YW Calgary’s success.
- Understand YW Calgary’s Health, Safety and Wellness (HS&W) policies, practices and protocols; ensure work is performed safely and in alignment with YW’s HS&W culture.
What You’ll Bring
- In the process of completing an Early Learning and Child Care certificate program, diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Minimum Level 1 Early Childhood Educator Certification is required.
- Knowledge of Alberta’s childcare regulations and health standards for childcare.
- Child Care First Aid & CPR.
- Brain Story certification or completion within 3 months of hire.
- Familiarity with Flight: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework with willingness to learn and implement.
- Knowledge of family violence and trauma-informed care is an asset.
- Highly professional, reliable, and punctual.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility and ability to work with various teams and classrooms.
- Approaches work and others through the lens of equity, diversity, and inclusivity and skilled at creating an environment of trust and respect.
- Sound judgement and demonstrated ability to mitigate risk and react quickly to ensure the safety of children.
- Flexible and creative; ability to adapt and modify activities and play if necessary; open to implement new and different ideas in a team environment.
- Skilled at remaining calm in a challenging and dynamic environment.
- Clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Record Check is required upon hire.
- Ability to sit, bend, kneel and lift up to 30 lbs. while interacting and playing with children; including outdoor play.
