Job summary

Squamish Nation’s Ayás Mén̓men Early Years and Youth Services seeks a Child & Youth Worker – Life Skills in Squamish Valley to support wellness, identity, and growth of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh children and youth.

You will work with Case Management, develop individualized support plans, and deliver recreational, cultural, and life-skills programming to empower youth toward adulthood, within a culturally grounded framework.

Qualifications

• Certificate in Life Skills, Social Work, or related field; equivalent training may be considered.
• 6–12 months of life-skills training, youth mentorship, counselling, caseload management, or related work.
• Experience with children and youth with developmental delays or disabilities.
• Knowledge of family-centre practices and youth wellness models.
• Valid BC Driver’s Licence (Class 5) and willingness to obtain Class 4.
• Ability to maintain confidential files, documentation, and professional boundaries.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a professional, adaptable style.
• High emotional intelligence and patience to stay calm in high-pressure situations.
• Ability to facilitate workshops and teach life-skills topics clearly.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Receive new case assignments and complete intake, referral information, and child/youth histories.
• Build supportive relationships with children and youth, providing temporary or long-term connection depending on the case.
• Manage an active caseload, maintaining confidential client files and detailed visit notes.
• Develop individualized Child/Youth Support Plans rooted in Squamish cultural healing and teaching methods.
• Monitor progress toward goals, documenting plans, required visits, and activities tailored to each youth’s needs.
• Report and document all critical incidents within required timelines.
• Manage and deliver life-skills programs and camps, including Youth Ambassadors and Shewayentsut.
• Develop and facilitate group workshops for youth preparing for adulthood (e.g., money management, healthy habits, self-care).
• Support coordination and delivery of summer programs, camps, and community-based programming.
• Participate in community education events, conferences, and healing gatherings that support youth wellness.
• Follow Youth Services program policies aligned with Squamish Nation procedures and ethical standards.
• Contribute positively to Ayás Mén̓men Child & Family Services team goals and assist with Youth Centre shifts as required.

Join the Ayás Mén̓men Early Years and Youth Services Department as the Child & Youth Worker – Life Skills, supporting the wellness, identity, and development of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh children and youth. Rooted in snew̓íyelh (teachings), cultural values, and holistic care, this role provides one‑on‑one support, case‑based services, and culturally grounded life‑skills programming that helps young people build confidence, resilience, and balance.

Working alongside Ayás Mén̓men Case Management, you will support youth in care and in community, develop individualized support plans, and help deliver recreational, cultural, and life‑skills programming to empower young people as they move toward adulthood.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For

Certificate in Life Skills, Social Work, or related field; equivalent training (e.g., JI child/youth development courses) may be considered.

6–12 months of experience in life‑skills training, youth mentorship, counselling, caseload management, and/or related work.

Experience working with children and youth with developmental delays or disabilities.

Knowledge of family‑centre practices and child/youth wellness models.

Valid BC Driver’s Licence (Class 5) and willingness to obtain Class 4.

Ability to maintain confidential files, documentation, and professional boundaries.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a professional, adaptable style.

High emotional intelligence, patience, integrity, and ability to stay calm in high‑pressure situations.

Intermediate MS Office and internet skills; experience with database systems (JD Edwards and Nucleus are assets).

Knowledge and understanding of Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, land, and People is preferred.

Wage Rate: $27.87 - $39.60
