Job summary

Squamish Nation is seeking a Child and Youth Wellness & Addiction Therapist to join the Háhalhi7iwan Wellness team within Nexwnínlhewá7nem Ch'áwch’aw People Services, delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed therapy to children, youth, and families in the community.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, the role conducts assessments, individual/family/group counselling, crisis intervention, and care coordination while integrating traditional and western healing approaches.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, or a related field.
• Active registration with a regulatory body such as BCACC, BCCSW, ACCT, or equivalent.
• 6–8 years of experience providing individual, family, and group therapy to children and youth.
• Strong clinical assessment, counselling, crisis intervention, and case management.
• Experience developing treatment plans and managing a full clinical caseload.
• Knowledge of child and youth development and age-appropriate interventions.
• Ability to travel across Squamish Nation territory and work evenings/weekends.

Squamish Nation is seeking a Child and Youth Wellness & Addiction Therapist to join the Háhalhi7iwan Wellness team within Nexwnínlhewá7nem Ch'áwch’aw People Services.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Therapeutic & Healing Services, the Child and Youth Wellness & Addiction Therapist is responsible for delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed, and evidence-informed therapeutic services to children, youth, and families in the community. This role provides mental health assessments, individual, family, and group counselling, crisis intervention, care coordination, and collaborative service planning while integrating both traditional and western approaches to healing.

Working alongside Elders, Knowledge Keepers, families, schools, health professionals, and community partners, you will play an important role in supporting mental wellness, strengthening family relationships, and promoting positive outcomes for children and youth. What You’ll Do

Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed counselling services to children, youth, and caregivers using strengths-based, land-based, and culturally grounded approaches.

Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized treatment and wellness plans.

Deliver individual, family, and group counselling services to children, youth, and families.

Facilitate mental health education, prevention initiatives, therapeutic groups, and community wellness programming.

Provide community outreach services to increase access to wellness supports.

Integrate Sḵwx̱wú7mesh values, cultural teachings, traditional healing practices, and client-centered care into service delivery.

Maintain a clinical caseload and monitor treatment progress and outcomes.

Collaborate with families, caregivers, schools, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Squamish Nation departments, and community partners to support coordinated care planning.

Participate in interdisciplinary case planning, Family Circles, and collaborative support meetings.

Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely clinical documentation and case records.

Advocate for and connect children, youth, and families with appropriate internal and external resources.

Participate in clinical supervision, ongoing professional development, and quality improvement initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

Master's degree in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Active registration and good standing with a professional regulatory body such as BCACC, BCCSW, ACCT, or an equivalent organization.

6 to 8 years of experience providing individual, family, and group therapy to children and youth.

Strong clinical assessment, counselling, crisis intervention, and case management experience.

Experience developing treatment plans and managing a full clinical caseload.

Knowledge of child and youth development, attachment, and age-appropriate therapeutic interventions.

Knowledge of a variety of counselling modalities and therapeutic approaches for children and youth.

Strong communication, relationship-building, and facilitation skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations.

Commitment to collaborative, team-based service delivery.

Valid BC Driver's Licence (Class 4 or 5; Class 7N may be considered).

Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

Ability to travel throughout Squamish Nation territory and the Lower Mainland.

Experience working with Indigenous communities and understanding the cultural, historical, and socio-economic factors affecting Indigenous wellness is considered an asset.

Knowledge and understanding of Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, land, and People is preferred.
