We're Hiring: Child & Youth Care Worker
Sturgeon Public School Division is currently seeking two
Full-Time Temporary Child and Youth Care Workers to provide a full range of support services for students at Camilla School.
Located just 15 minutes northwest of St. Albert in Riviere Qui Barre, Camilla School moved into a beautiful new building in 2022. With programming from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 9, the school is home to 500 students and 50 staff and is known for its culture of educational excellence and support for students with diverse learning needs.
In this role, the Child and Youth Care Worker will support students in an elementary classroom, working directly with teachers and educational assistants.
What You Do
- Observe, assess, and document student behaviours and safety needs
- Monitor, support, and participate in classroom activities
- Teach and assist students in classroom and life skills
- Provide encouragement and academic support
- Build trust and rapport with students
- Offer alternative coping strategies for developmental or situational challenges
- Intervene in crisis situations as needed
- Maintain a therapeutic approach to behaviour management
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher for problem-solving and decision-making
- Contribute to IPPs, Behaviour and Safety Plans as needed
- Provide parent and in-home supports
- Participate in school events and professional development
What You Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Child and Youth Care or Social Work
- Diploma in Child and Youth Care may be considered
- Minimum 2 years of related experience
- Knowledge of addiction and mental health
- Understanding of the developmental, educational, emotional, and social needs of children and youth
- First Aid Certification
- Suicide Prevention Training and Indigenous Cultural Awareness
- Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and CARE Training
- Clear Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
