Kepler Academy in Edmonton is seeking a Kitchen Helper to support the Child Care Chef, ensuring clean, organized kitchen operations and safe food handling for up to 150 children daily. This role emphasizes nutritional preparation and adherence to Canada Food Guide.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1-year commercial cooking experience in a high-volume kitchen environment.
• Food Safety Certificate.
• Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check issued within the past 6 months.
• Standard First Aid certificate is considered as an asset.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring a clean, sanitized environment in the kitchen, including dishes, utensils, cooking equipment, and cutting boards; mopping and sweeping.
• Maintain inventory of food, supplies and equipment.
• Label and date opened packages in fridge and freezer; practice FIFO.
• Prepare, season, and cook food as directed, accommodating allergies and dietary requirements.
• Be mindful of proper portion sizes served to children.
• Follow Canada Food Guide to meet nutritional needs.
• Maintain kitchen cleaning log and disinfecting practices.
• Know and practice proper hand washing procedures.
• Handle garbage according to procedures.
