Job summary

Kepler Academy is seeking a Part Time Level 1 Early Childhood Educator for our Edmonton downtown location. You will lead age-appropriate activities to stimulate development while ensuring safety and well‑being.

You will collaborate with the team, engage families, and support infants through out-of-school care. This role emphasizes learning through Exploratory Education, STEM, and child-led activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement child-care programs promoting holistic development.
  • Lead stories, songs, games, and arts activities for children.
  • Plan environments that protect health, safety and wellbeing.
  • Assess abilities and discuss progress with parents and staff.
  • Observe for learning or behavioural concerns and report findings.
  • Support eating, dressing and hygiene routines.
  • Collaborate with coworkers and community service providers.
  • May plan activities for school-age children before/after school hours.
  • May supervise other early childhood educators and assistants.
  • Classroom maintenance and light cleaning duties.
  • Diaper changes and handwashing support.

What do we need from you?

Early Childhood Educators at Kepler Academy will primarily lead children in activities to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth and ensure their security and well-being. You will also organize and implement programs for children ranging from infant care up to out-of-school-care.

As an Early Childhood Educator, we are looking for individuals with a passion for shaping young minds. You will play an integral role in families lives by providing an enriched experience for children.

What will you do?
  • Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
  • Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, playing games, taking children to local points of interest and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
  • Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
  • Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
  • Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
  • May plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours
  • May supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
  • Classroom maintenance and light cleaning duties required
  • May conduct diaper changes and support with handwashing and hygiene

  • Ability to lift and carry children and equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to engage in active play, including bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
Required qualifications to work at Kepler Academy:
  • Child Development Certificate issued in the Province of Alberta, Level 1, 2 or 3
  • Valid Standard Child Care / Level C First Aid certificate
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check issued within the past 6 months
  • Previous experience in childcare is considered as an asset
  • Knowledge of child development principles and best practices in early childhood education
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of childcare professionals
