Job summary

The YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford is seeking a Centre Supervisor for the Early Learning and Child Care program. You will lead a team, supervise staff, and ensure high-quality care for children ages 18 months to 3.8 years, while aligning with licensing and YMCA policies.

This full-time role requires strong leadership, budget awareness, and commitment to safeguarding children. Hours are Monday to Friday with occasional evenings/weekends; a vehicle may be required.

Qualifications

  • Experience supervising staff in a child care setting.
  • Ability to recruit, hire, train and evaluate staff.
  • Budget development and monitoring experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum and ministry directions.

Responsibilities

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager of Early Learning and Child Care, the Centre Supervisor is responsible for the day to day management of a YMCA Child Care centre, providing leadership and stability in the development and direct delivery of program, as well as being an energetic, dedicated, and enthusiastic RECE professional able to exercise sensitivity and maturity in dealing with both children and adults.

The Centre Supervisor will manage and mentor/coach staff, provide direct supervision to the Early Learning Child Care Centre team, as well as problem solve parent concerns. In addition, the Centre Supervisor will exhibit strong interpersonal skills and an understanding and appreciation for the delivery of high quality child care services for children ages 18 months to 3.8 years.

Hours of work are based on a full-time schedule, Monday to Friday with flexibility to work evenings and weekends, if required. Use of a vehicle is required.

What You’ll Do:

  • Be responsible for the direct supervision, recruitment, orientation, and performance management of a designated staff team.
  • Role model effective leadership behaviour that aligns with our YMCA HBB core values.
  • Inform and educate staff on best practices and pedagogy, which translate into program delivery.
  • Ensure centre meets the licensing requirements of the Child Care & Early Years Act (CCEYA).
  • Ensure all human resource and child care policies/procedures are applied consistently, and measures are put in place to ensure transparency and fair processes.
  • Co-ordinate and establish staff schedules, and complete payroll of designated program staff.
  • Participate in budget preparation and ongoing monitoring of expenses and revenue for the centre.
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with community groups, Municipalities, School Boards, staff, volunteers, participants and the Ministry of Education.
  • Create a Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) and chair monthly meetings.
  • Lead staff huddles and other meetings as directed.
  • Actively participate in Association initiatives involving the Annual Giving Program and other educational and promotional initiatives of the Association.
  • Assume frontline responsibilities as required.
  • Travel for meetings, professional development sessions, other locations as needed

What You’ll Bring:

  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and a member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years supervisory experience in a child care setting. Previous YMCA experience is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading, coaching and cultivating a work environment of collaboration and teamwork.
  • Experience in recruitment, hiring, performance management and training of staff.
  • Experience in developing and managing a budget.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong understanding and ability to articulate and implement the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging ministry directions and curriculum.
  • Current Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR-Level C.
  • Current Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Access to reliable personal transportation.
