Job summary

The YMCA of Hamilton|Burlington|Brantford is seeking an Inclusion Support Facilitator to assist Child Care, Day Camp, and Community Outreach. You will develop individual plans, create resources, and support with professional learning to remove barriers to inclusion.

Reporting to the General Manager, Inclusion Services, this role collaborates with Case Managers to ensure children feel connected and engaged. Hybrid work with in-person site visits is expected.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a child-related field is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a child care setting.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel within Hamilton, Burlington and Brantford.

Position Overview

Reporting to the General Manager, Inclusion Services for Children with a dotted line to the Case Manager, Child Care Inclusion Services, the Inclusion Support Facilitator provides support to the Child Care, Day Camp and Community Outreach department through program resource visits, developing individual plans, resource creation, and supporting with professional learning as needed. In this role, the Facilitator works collaboratively with Case Managers to remove barriers to inclusion and support quality where children feel connected, a sense of belonging, well-being, expression and engagement. The Facilitator will receive guidance and limited direction on assigned tasks from the Case Manager, as required. This is a great opportunity for an individual with a high level of interest in working with the YMCA HBB as a charitable organization.

What You’ll Do
  • Empower staff to set up program spaces that are inclusive of all children by providing effective group resources and promote a universal design approach to inclusion.
  • Collaborate with community-facing staff and families to strengthen inclusive practices, identify accommodations or modifications, and support the application of individual support plans.
  • Assist with completing intakes and developing individual plans.
  • Support with the implementation of plans developed by the Case Manager, including modeling strategies to build staff capacity in working with children who have disabilities, medical, mental health and social emotional needs.
  • Utilize a strengths-based approach when supporting plans and strategies while considering the health, safety, well-being, and engagement of children.
  • Contribute to meetings involving the Case Manager, Program Manager, site staff, and/or families to problem solve and develop goals or action items.
  • Support with professional learning for community-facing staff, both virtually and in-person.
  • Collect, prepare, and maintain ongoing accurate information and documentation.
  • Complete program observations and collect information to support the development of strategies and planning.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching techniques including relationship building, active listening, modeling strategies in action, providing practical strategies and onsite support.
  • Source and create relevant and current resources to support inclusion.
  • Model and comply with all policies, procedures, best practices and employee expectations as established by the YMCA.
  • Communicate in a respectful manner, including listening and seeking to understand different perspectives.
  • Hours of work are based on a 40-hour per week schedule, Monday to Friday, with the flexibility to be available early mornings and evenings to accommodate the needs of the Child Care Programs. At certain times during the year, weekends may be required for the purpose of providing training.
What You’ll Bring
  • Post-secondary education in a child related field such as Child and Youth Care or Early Childhood Education Diploma.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a child care setting.
  • Knowledge of child development demonstrated through experience working with children that have developmental, physical, health/medical, personal care, mental health, and social emotional needs.
  • Experience effectively identifying problems and proposing solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and establish effective working relationships with staff, managers, families and community partner agencies.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands occurring at once.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office email and/or internet applications.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification.
  • Access to reliable personal transportation to travel throughout Hamilton, Burlington, Brantford to visit programs within the community and provide on-site support is required.
A Major Asset If
  • You have Crises Intervention and Prevention Certification.
  • You have experience in working with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity.
  • You have experience with use of Salesforce.
