Qualifications include a Social Work degree or related field, 2 years experience in Indigenous communities, knowledge of Cree is an asset, strong documentation and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide family support services and act as liaison promoting child safety and community well‑being.
  • Organize resources and programs for high risk families and conduct wraparound approaches.
  • Deliver classes, workshops and training for family preservation and well‑being.
  • Perform crisis intervention and restorative intervention services as required.
  • Document and notify Child Protection matters using referral processes.

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is now inviting applications for the following full-time position based out of Hall Lake, SK:

Child Advocate Worker (2)

The Family Advocate Worker, reporting to the Prevention Coordinator, supports in a service as a prime liaison in promoting child safety, family unity, and community well-being within Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) communities. This position involves implementing prevention initiatives, providing family support services, and collaborating with external agencies to ensure comprehensive care for families and children in need.

The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties:
  • Classes, Workshops and Training to improve Family preservation and well being.
  • Culture and Recreational activities that support Children and Families at risk.
  • Organize resources and programs to help high risk Families.
  • Provide support & Services for Group support, Home visits, Parent Mentoring, Parenting Skills programs and Respite care.
  • Family Counselling.
  • Mediation and Alternative resolution disputes.
  • Organize wraparound approaches based on identifying needs.
  • Cultural and recreational activities for Children and Youth at risk.
  • Immediate or Intensive crisis intervention.
  • Restorative intervention service.
  • Document and notify Child Protection matters using a “Referral form to CFS”.
  • Intervention services for mental health and addictions counselling and treatment for family, parents and youth.
The suitable candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Degree in Social Work, or a related field.
  • 2 years -Experience working in Indigenous communities, culture sensitivity and knowledge of First Nations culture.
  • Knowledge of child protection legislation, policies, and best practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and proficiency in documentation.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail require.
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle.
  • Eligible to obtain a professional registration and regulatory body.
  • Ability to speak and understand Cree is an asset.
  • Provide a satisfactory and recent criminal record and vulnerable sector check and SGI drivers abstract.
