Job summary

Deep-Water Intake Group is seeking a Chief Surveyor for the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment, overseeing tunnel, surface and LU/LO monitoring teams. You will ensure accurate data collection, data programming for tunnel guidance software, and daily reporting to the Client.

Lead a large, cross-site team, develop junior staff, and uphold stringent safety standards in a nuclear-regulated environment, contributing to continuous improvement and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or related field.
• 10 years of experience in construction surveying on major heavy civil and TBM projects.
• Extensive knowledge of SCL tunnel monitoring, construction & surveying.
• Experience managing a large team across split locations.
• Experience with monitoring systems geodetic & geotechnical.

Responsibilities

• Manage in-tunnel, LU/LO and surface monitoring teams.
• Ensure accurate data acquisition and timely data collection.
• Program data for tunnel guidance software.
• Liaise with JV SCL Engineering and Client on daily reports.
• Develop junior staff within the team.

What is the project?

The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:

• A5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.5 m diameter slurry TBM);
• Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
• An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.

The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.

What you will do:

The Chief Surveyor is accountable for overseeing and managing the surveying team in the collection of monitoring data. Establishing the manual monitoring and supervising the daily survey activities.

Concretely, your tasks will be:

• Management of the in tunnel, LU/LO and surface monitoring teams.
• Accountable for the accurate acquisition of data
• Collection of all monitoring data in time for daily review
• Accountable for the data programming of the tunnel guidance software
• Liaise with JV SCL Engineering team and the Client in relation to daily monitoring reports for the sites and deal with any associated queries
• Develop junior members of staff within the team
• Attend daily SRG (Shift Review Group) meeting if required and feed back to team as necessary
• Manage resources and equipment available to team for monitoring activitiesOrganise additional survey resource if and when required to cover additional works instructed by the Client.
• Demonstrate a personal commitment to safety

• Degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related field.
• 10 years of experience in construction surveying on major heavy civil and TBM projects
• Extensive knowledge of SCL tunnel monitoring, construction & surveying
• Previous strong experience in managing a large team across split locations
• Experience of monitoring systems geodetic & geotechnical
• Very good knowledge of computer systems and modern survey equipment with data transmission.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural project environments.
• A proactive, field‑oriented mindset with strong problem‑solving capabilities.
• Experience working in nuclear‑regulated environments is an asset.
