Guided by its core values of professionalism, integrity, and excellence, ONB supports businesses through four service pillars: Navigate, grow, optimize, and export, helping companies access expertise, address obstacles, improve productivity, strengthen supply chains, and expand into national and international markets. Since its inception in 2015, ONB has been a catalyst for competitive and innovative economic growth and job creation. ONB has been recognized as one of Atlantic Canada’s Top Employers for nine consecutive years, from 2017 to 2025, and is a recipient of the Waterstone Human Capital 2025 Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Culture Award.

ONB is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to join a dynamic team of business professionals who are passionate about growing New Brunswick’s economy, contributing to their communities, and making a meaningful impact. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO is a key member of ONB’s senior leadership team and provides broad financial leadership for the finance, accounting, and internal audit functions. The CFO also plays a key front-end, client-facing role in attracting private sector investment by structuring and negotiating complex deals that offer a strong return on investment and bring economic opportunity to New Brunswick.

The CFO works with C-suite leaders to develop investment opportunities and implement strategies that bring them to life. As a seasoned finance executive, communicator, relationship builder, and front-end deal negotiator, the CFO evaluates requests for assistance and proposals seeking to attract new enterprise to the province; assists New Brunswick companies experiencing operational difficulties in returning to profitability; and, where this is not possible, takes steps to protect the province’s financial interests.

The CFO provides advice to the Minister, Deputy Minister, Board, CEO, and senior leadership team on complex financial transactions and rapidly changing contexts. They build trusted relationships with business leaders, government stakeholders, and community partners, communicate complex deal specifics to diverse audiences, and lead teams to drive results, foster innovative solutions, and deliver customer-centred service.

The successful candidate brings a minimum of 10 years of leadership experience, preferably within a fast-growing and entrepreneurial organization, and a post-secondary degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. They are a seasoned business and finance executive and deal maker with significant commercial lending experience, strong financial management capability, and the ability to structure, assess, and negotiate complex transactions and investment opportunities. A high-EQ, values-driven leader, they demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, sound strategic and analytical judgment, integrity, ethics, transparency, and accountability. They bring an understanding of financial regulations, compliance requirements, and reporting standards, a sales lens, and a collaborative, team-based approach. Written and spoken competence in English is required. The role is based in Fredericton, NB, with occasional travel within the province and work beyond regular business hours as required. M&A experience is considered an asset.
