Job summary

Coeur Mining’s Rainy River operation in northwestern Ontario is seeking a Chief Exploration Geologist to lead regional exploration programs and to guide near-mine drilling strategy. You will shape the long-term resource growth and play a key role in our regional land package development.

The role requires 8–15+ years in mineral exploration, strong geological modelling and a proven leadership record. ArcGIS and Leapfrog software proficiency, and Ontario P.Geo status is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Science; Post-graduate degree is an asset.
  • Registered or eligible to register as a P. Geo in Ontario, Canada.
  • 8–15+ years of mineral exploration experience in early-stage exploration, with regional scale targeting in Archean greenstone belts is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the regional exploration programs, including budgeting, target generation, strategic exploration planning, permitting, and reporting.
  • Supervise and contribute to data management, collection, and compilation, and to interpretation and analysis of geological information.
  • Develop, maintain, and update regional and deposit-scale geological models as exploration advances.
  • Manage contractor-related regional work activities including contractor selection, drilling and field supervision, and cost monitoring.
  • Assist the Exploration Manager with reporting requirements to government and other stakeholders, and supervision of near-mine drilling program.
  • Ensure exploration activities align with Environmental, Health and Safety policies.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the Rainy River Exploration team.
  • Maintain positive relationships with surrounding communities.

Rainy River

Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River mine, located adjacent to the Ontario/Minnesota border is 65 kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. Role Overview:

At Rainy River, our goal is to extend mine life and unlock new discoveries across our strategic land package—positioning our exploration team as a primary engine for regional growth. In this role, you will help shape the long-term future of the Rainy River operation by driving regional exploration success and accelerating near-mine resource growth.

Reporting to the Exploration manager, the Chief Exploration Geologist main responsibilities include technical leadership for the Rainy River exploration team, management of the regional exploration programs and support of the near mine drilling program. The candidate should be experienced in target generation, geological interpretation, and 3D modelling, with a strong background in greenstone belt geology and VMS-style deposits.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the regional exploration programs, including but not limited to, budgeting, target generation, strategic exploration planning, permitting, and reporting
  • Supervise and contribute to data management, collection, and compilation, and to the detailed interpretation and analysis of geological information
  • Develop, maintain, and update regional and deposit-scale geological models as exploration advances and the geological understanding evolves
  • Manage contractor-related regional work activities including contractor selection, drilling and field supervision, and cost monitoring
  • Assist the Exploration Manager with reporting requirements to government and other stakeholders, management of the near-mine drilling program and supervision of the Exploration team
  • Ensure that all exploration activities, including contractor work, are consistent with the Company’s Environmental, Health and Safety policies and practices
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the Rainy River Exploration team
  • Maintain positive relationship with the surrounding communities
  • Other related duties to support the Exploration team as required
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience
  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Science; Post-graduate degree, an asset
  • Registered or eligible to register as a P. Geo in Ontario, Canada
  • 8-15+ years of mineral exploration experience in early-stage exploration, with regional scale targeting experience in Archean greenstone belts being an asset
  • Previous experience in supervision role, including both exploration team and contractor management
  • An excellent understanding of mineral exploration methods, QA/QC practices, geological settings, deposit models, and ore-forming processes as it pertains to the latest concepts of gold deposit environments
  • Proficiency in GIS and 3D modelling software, with competencies with ArcGIS and Leapfrog being an asset
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills supported by well-developed communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety, environment, and community
Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position will be between $145,000 to $170,000.
