CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO) Edmonton, AB The Alberta Association of Optometrists (AAO) has appointed Jay Harvey of Lock Search Group to assist in the recruitment of their next Chief Executive Officer. The AAO is the professional voice for optometrists across Alberta, committed to advancing the profession and ensuring Albertans have access to world-class eye care. Are you a visionary leader with a passion for healthcare and a track record of driving strategic growth? We’re seeking a dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to be the next leader of the AAO. JOB SUMMARY Working from their Edmonton office, the CEO will be responsible for setting and executing the strategic direction of the organization, overseeing daily operations, and acting as the primary liaison with stakeholders, including government, healthcare partners, and members. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of optometry in Alberta—balancing clinical excellence with strong business acumen to ensure sustainability and growth. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Board to shape long-term vision and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Operations Management: Oversee programs, member services, financial management, and internal policies to ensure operational excellence.
  • Financial Oversight: Develop and manage annual budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure long-term fiscal sustainability.
  • Advocacy & Government Relations: Lead advocacy efforts with government and regulators to promote the profession and influence healthcare policy.
  • Membership Engagement: Cultivate a strong member community through services, education, and responsive support.
  • Team Leadership: Inspire, develop, and manage a high-performing team aligned with the organization’s goals and values.
  • Communications & Public Relations: Serve as the public face of the organization, ensuring consistent and strategic communication with stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS Education:
  • Bachelor’s and master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Public Policy).
  • A relevant recognized professional designation (e.g., CAE, CPA, CAPM) is considered an asset.
Experience:
  • 5–10+ years of senior leadership in a healthcare, association, or non-profit environment.
  • Proven success in strategic planning, financial management, and team leadership.
  • Strong background in advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and navigating complex regulatory environments.
