Job description

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO) - BC SOCCER ASSOCIATION

Full-time, permanent, Hybrid

Are you a strategic, highly relational leader who understands how to bring people together around a shared vision? Do you understand the dynamics of a grassroots, member-based organization and bring the leadership experience to help shape the future of one of British Columbia’s most widely participated sports?

BC Soccer is seeking its next Chief Executive Officer — a thoughtful, dynamic leader who can navigate complexity, build trust across a diverse stakeholder community, and translate an ambitious vision into meaningful results.

ABOUT BC SOCCER

BC Soccer’s vision is “Building a better future through soccer.” We bring this vision to life by providing a positive soccer experience for everyone connected with the game and being a leading force in the promotion, development and governance of soccer in British Columbia.

Our values - Progressive, Integrity, Excellence, Collaboration and Accessibility - guide how we work and how we serve BC’s soccer community.

ABOUT YOU

You are a strategic, energetic and highly relational senior leader with an appreciation for soccer and amateur sport, an authentic respect for the people and organizations that make the game possible, and the curiosity to become deeply engaged in BC’s soccer community.

You understand that success in a grassroots, member-based organization depends on strong relationships.

You listen carefully, build trust, navigate competing interests and know when to consult, influence, challenge or lead decisively — while keeping sight of the bigger picture.

An exceptional communicator, you read people and situations well and adapt your approach to different audiences. You understand the distinct roles of a Board and its CEO and are comfortable working with directors, employees, members, volunteers, government, partners and a broad stakeholder community.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO provides strategic and organizational leadership to BC Soccer and serves as a key connection between the Board, staff, members and broader soccer community.

A significant priority for the incoming CEO will be translating BC Soccer’s strategic direction into action, implementing an organizational structure that ensures the right people, resources, accountabilities and operational priorities are in place for the future.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of BC Soccer’s strategic direction, translating strategy into clear priorities and measurable outcomes while identifying opportunities for growth and organizational development.
  • Member & Stakeholder Relations: Build trusted relationships with members, clubs, volunteers, Canada Soccer, government, sport organizations, community and corporate partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Board Governance: Maintain a strong, transparent and productive relationship with the Board, providing the information and strategic insight needed for effective governance and decision-making.
  • Financial Leadership: Ensure BC Soccer operates in a financially responsible and sustainable manner, with oversight of budgeting, revenue generation, assets, investments, funding and long-term financial planning.
  • People Leadership: Lead and develop a high-performing staff team and foster a collaborative culture grounded in trust, accountability, open communication and clarity of purpose.
  • Organizational Leadership: Lead effectively through change and ensure BC Soccer’s structure, resources and operations remain aligned with its strategic direction and the evolving needs of its members.
WHAT YOU BRING
Required:
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible management experience, including significant senior leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams and delivering results in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal and situational awareness.
  • Experience developing and executing multi-year strategic plans and translating strategy into measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, influence outcomes and navigate differing stakeholder priorities.
  • A flexible leadership style and sound judgment about when to listen, consult, influence, challenge or make a decision.
  • A genuine interest in soccer and amateur sport, along with the curiosity to become deeply engaged in BC’s soccer community.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada, with a valid Canadian driver’s licence and the ability to travel throughout British Columbia as required.
  • Ability to successfully complete required criminal record and vulnerable sector checks.
Highly Valued:
  • Relevant post-secondary education, professional development, or an equivalent combination of executive leadership experience and education.
  • Senior leadership experience within soccer or sport management/business, a Provincial or National Sport Organization, or another complex member-based or not-for-profit organization.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian and/or British Columbia soccer landscape, including its grassroots delivery, governance and membership environment.
  • Experience working effectively with a governance Board.
  • Experience working with government, funding partners, corporate partners, media and other external stakeholders.
WHY JOIN BC SOCCER?
  • Competitive salary of $142,000–$168,000, commensurate with experience
  • Flexible, hybrid working environment
  • Comprehensive employer-paid benefits package
  • Four weeks of annual vacation
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program for you and your dependents

This is an opportunity to lead an organization with significant provincial reach and to help shape the future of soccer in British Columbia.
