Côté Gold is being developed in partnership with the Mattagami First Nation, Flying Post First Nation and Métis Nation of Ontario, Region 3.

The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

To manage the production of mine designs and plans and to assess the performance and effectiveness of existing designs and systems. To work with the senior management team in establishing the overall strategy for the mine and manage the engineering team. Oversee surveying, ventilation, industrial hygiene and planning.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1:

  • Develop and implement the overall strategy for engineering, based on assistance from other departments and personnel.
  • Execute and review mine planning and mine design to maximize value to the operation.
  • Establish the engineering budget using data from the overall mine budget and business plan objectives.
  • Guide operating departments to maximize production, plan their activities and accurately measure key mining specifications.
  • Enhance grade control and minimize dilution through mine designs and mine plans.
  • Set production objectives and track their achievement and address or correct issues as they arise.
  • Track execution of economic evaluations and feasibility studies on underground and open pit projects.
  • Ensure designs and applications comply with regulatory and company policies and procedures.
  • Approve new and innovative products, techniques and processes to maximize the value of the operation.
  • Organize activities between multi engineering disciplines and other departments to ensure customer satisfaction.

Area 2:

  • Provide top-level assistance and advice to the Mine Manager and Technical Services Manager.
  • Provide recommendations to the Mine Manager and Technical Services Manager with regards to the formulation and execution of the overall engineering budget.
  • Provide assistance to the management team to establish the direction and develop the mid- to long-term operations and project development strategies for the engineering department.
  • Provide expert advice within the site on engineering procedures and practices.
  • Establish options and implement actions to initiate best practices for engineering.

Area 3:

  • Provide leadership and organization to the engineering team.
  • Build an appropriate team through recruitment and development.
  • Provide clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required to achieve business plans and production goals.
  • Estimate the necessary labor and equipment to achieve planned production, while meeting planned costs.
  • Manage performance by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback and coaching to direct reports.
  • Ensure that training is provided according to the current and future requirements of the mine.
  • Cultivate and maintain a high performance culture.
  • Oversee consultants and contractors on engineering projects.

Safety & Sustainability Expectations

Maintain a cooperative interest in the health and safety of yourself, your fellow workers and local communities. Wear PPE at all times if in production environments. Be alert and observe, correct and report unsafe conditions. Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements. Ensure that work areas are in compliance with all of IAMGOLD’s Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Acts in the applicable jurisdiction. Intervene as necessary, to ensure the safety of others in the workplace. Provide safety leadership by always setting a good example.

Scope of Responsibility & Complexity

Work is advanced and specialized in its complexity and involves analysis, new methodologies and may provide specialized advice. Problem resolution requires a high degree of independent judgment. Integrates theoretical concepts or original approaches to resolve problems and complete projects or assignments.

Work is performed within general authority, receiving little direction. Ensures projects in the unit or area are completed on-time, on-budget, and to required standards, involving support or technical activities of a group of managers or professionals. Work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and effectiveness of results. Provides general direction to staff with an emphasis on the execution of plans and delivery of services.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves

  • University degree in mining engineering or equivalent engineering degree.
  • Eligible for registration as a professional engineer.
  • Eight to twelve years of mine operation and engineering experience.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Good knowledge of various engineering and mining operating methods is necessary.
  • Working knowledge of the Mining Act as in relation to mine operations.
  • Experience in drafting reports in both official languages.
  • Sound knowledge of Mine site, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, MSProject, Powerpoint, PowerBi, Powerapps).
  • Analysis capabilities, long term vision.
  • Leadership and supervision capabilities.
