Second Engineers

McKeil Marine Limited has immediate openings for Second Engineers with self-unloader experience for our new ship arriving in 2023. Positions are on a permanent full-time basis. We are seeking eager and self-starting individuals responsible for driving strong and initiative-taking maintenance processes for onboard machinery and propulsion systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Report to the Chief Engineer.
• Manage the day-to-day planning of all preventative maintenance processes and oversee personnel within the engineering department.
• Manage inventory, housekeeping, budgeting, and proactive requisitioning to support the mechanical needs of the vessel's engine room and auxiliary machinery areas.
• Set and uphold high performance standards for subordinates.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness within the engine room and auxiliary spaces.
• Manage budgets related to planned maintenance systems.
• Communicate effectively up and down the chain of command.
• Maintain a strong safety and risk management mindset.
• Conduct root cause analysis to contribute to a safe work environment and prevent incidents.
• Perform troubleshooting, inspections, and audits to ensure vessel efficiency and prevent downtime.
• Monitor bunkers, lubricants, and spare parts inventory proactively.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including TC, Port States, and Class entities.
• Organize daily routines to support preventative maintenance priorities.
• Enforce company policies and procedures.
• Understand and apply quality management systems.
• Adhere to pollution regulations and environmental objectives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3rd Class Motor Engineer Certificate issued by Transport Canada.
• Marine Emergency Duties (MED), STCW Basic Safety, and Survival Craft Certifications.
• Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical.
• Experience with Safety Management Systems (ISO & ISM).
• Strong computer skills, including MS Office and NSE.
• Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
• Initiative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with self-unloading technology is a strong asset.
