Fixed Term Contract
We are looking for a Chemistry Laboratory Technician - Fixed Term Contract in #106- 8255 North Fraser Way, Burnaby, BC V3N OB9 CAN. Your mission will be to:
YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE
MAIN ACTIVITIES
- Prepare media, chemicals and reagents.
- Prepare, homogenize, weigh and perform simple extraction of samples
- Provide routine sample analysis such as moisture, ash, pH, sensory, etc.
- Collect, wash and dry glassware and other containers used throughout the laboratory and return to the designated locations in the laboratory. Conduct a residue test on glassware as needed.
- Ensure the department is stocked with necessary supplies.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the laboratory and surrounding areas.
- Assist the maintenance and janitorial personnel with other cleaning requirements as requested.
- Update logbooks and maintenance records as required.
- Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities.
- Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes. Perform necessary tasks related to quality control parameters for the function being performed.
- This position has the responsibility and authority to identify departures from the quality system or test procedures and document such observations in accordance with the prescribed non-conforming system and notifies the supervisor.
- Adhere to all safety policies.
- Perform other related duties as needed.

YOUR PROFILE
KNOWLEDGE
- A diploma in chemistry, microbiology or food science is preferred but previous experience is accepted.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- This position requires the ability to follow specific instructions.
- A general understanding of the needs of the laboratory is required to avoid delays in sample testing or inaccurate results.
- Excellent verbal communication skills are required to interact with peers and management.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The incumbent works in the laboratory with proper lighting and temperature control.
- Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory.
- The incumbent works in the laboratory with increased temperatures near the autoclave and washer.
- The incumbent is required to wear masks, laboratory coat and insulated gloves when working with the media.
- Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds is necessary when loading and preparing samples for autoclaving.
- The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position.
COMPENSATION OVERVIEW
Compensation Range $21.48 - $22.61 hourly CAD
