Overall Responsibilities

Reporting to the Managers of Quality Control (Chemistry and Microbiology), the Research Chemist will be responsible for developing, optimizing, validating, and implementing qualitative and quantitative analytical testing methods for active ingredients used in Nutraceutical, Pharmaceutical, and Herbal preparations.

Specific Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop and validate analytical testing methods for active ingredients in both new and existing formulations to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Optimize existing analytical testing methods for new product matrices and formulations.
  • Prepare and execute method validation protocols, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and preparing comprehensive final validation reports.
  • Implement new analytical testing methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis, including the creation and revision of SOPs and STPs.
  • Assist QC Supervisors and Senior Technologists in method transfers to various analytical testing areas.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control Managers to identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing lab efficiency and productivity.
  • Support QC Technologists with training, development, and troubleshooting technical issues related to testing methodologies or equipment to maintain high testing accuracy.
  • Oversee the implementation, qualification, and maintenance of analytical instrumentation.
  • Work closely with the Product Development team to troubleshoot and resolve method-related issues arising from formulation interactions or modifications.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of method implementation based on testing costs and volumes.
  • Participate in the quality auditing of external service providers.
  • Ensure testing guidelines, such as United States Pharmacopeia, and international Pharmacopeias (BP, EU, JP), as well as relevant regulations, are kept up to date.
  • Attend AOAC and USP meetings/conferences as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to Health & Safety policies and SOPs, including the company’s Safety Responsibilities Procedure, to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Comply with GMP in all relevant areas to maintain quality standards in GMP-sensitive facilities.
  • Contribute to additional duties and projects to support team and organizational goals.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in chemistry or related science field, or five years of equivalent experience in R&D or analytical testing in a pharmaceutical lab.
  • Deep knowledge and experience with ICP, HPLC, GC, UV, IR, and wet chemistry techniques.
  • Experience with specialized instrumentation software (e.g., OpenLab CDS, MassHunter) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with USP, FCC, EP, AOAC standards used in the food and drug industry.
  • Ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and management skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret literature and apply findings to method development.
