Job summary

ESS Compass in Smithers, BC is seeking an experienced Chef to lead kitchen operations for food production and service for students and staff. The role requires directing all aspects of food production, menu planning, staffing, scheduling and relationship building while maintaining cost control and safety standards.

The position features a 12-hour shift with a 21 days on / 7 days off rotation, including travel to remote camp sites.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in culinary or related studies.
  • Red Seal Certificate preferred.
  • 5+ years of kitchen management experience in banquet, restaurant or remote camp.

Responsibilities

  • Be accountable for menu planning, staffing, scheduling, client, and customer relationship building.
  • Take responsibility for daily operations, such as preparation, cooking, presentation and administration of feeding students and staff.
  • Oversee all food, labour, and overhead costs.

  • Perform administrative duties including weekly purchase summaries, event staffing, inventory controls, and production meetings.

Description

How you will make an impact:
You will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating assigned kitchen, food production and food-service associates.

As a Chef, you will:

  • Direct and supervise all aspects of food production and services
  • Be accountable for menu planning, staffing, scheduling, client, and customer relationship building
  • Take responsibility for daily operations, such as preparation, cooking, presentation and administration of feeding students and staff
  • Oversee all food, labour, and overhead costs
  • Be responsible for occasional catering events
  • Perform administrative duties that include completion of weekly purchase summaries, scheduling associates for events, inventory controls, and daily production meetings and records
  • Ensure strict compliance with the Compass Quality Assurance and Health and Safety Program, Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS regulations

About you:

  • Post-secondary education in culinary or related studies
  • 5+ years of kitchen management experience in a banquet, restaurant or remote camp
  • Creative ability to apply trendy food items and presentations to operations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, paying attention to accuracy and detail
  • Willingness to accommodate a flexible work schedule (including weekends)
  • Capable of performing administrative duties
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Red Seal Certificate and experience working in Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) preferred

Position Requirements:

  • Pass a Drug & Alcohol Test
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Advanced Food Safe Certification
  • Shift: 12hr/Day
  • Rotation: 21 Days On/7 Days Off

The hourly wage for this position is $28.00 .Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
