Job Description

WHAT’S THE JOB?

Based in a world-class Horizon North camp facility, the regular shift for this position is 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, with 12-hour workdays. Transportation to the site is provided.

The Chef is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen operations, including ordering ingredients, menu planning, assisting with food preparation and service, staff training, and ensuring compliance with Horizon North Food Safety protocols.

Your Responsibilities
  • Prepare, present, design, and serve high-quality rotational menus.
  • Supervise kitchen staff productivity and ensure adherence to Horizon North policies on health, safety, and quality.
  • Lead training, development, and mentoring of employees.
  • Ensure all food is prepared following FOODSAFE and HACCP standards and Horizon North safety guidelines.
  • Manage resources effectively and efficiently, including labor and chemicals.
  • Serve clients and staff in a personable and professional manner.
  • Apply knowledge of dietary restrictions, allergies, vegan, and vegetarian options in meal planning and preparation.
  • Conduct bi-weekly inventory checks.

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Red Seal Certificate is an asset.
  • SafeCheck advanced food safety or HACCP certification.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the hospitality/food service industry.
  • At least 10 years as a Chef in hotels, resorts, restaurants, or remote lodges, with knowledge of international and domestic cuisines.
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, GFS, and Outlook.
  • Extensive knowledge of menu costing, recipe implementation, and wage control.
  • Strong practical and theoretical skills across all kitchen areas, including hot kitchens, cold kitchens, pastry/bakery, butchery, and banquets handling large groups.
  • Effective leadership qualities, a positive personality, and good listening skills.
