Job summary

Rotaflow Controls Inc. is seeking an experienced CFAA Fire Alarm Technician to support fire protection systems across Western Canada.

The role includes inspecting, testing, and maintaining life-safety systems in industrial facilities, with fly-in/fly-out options from Calgary or Edmonton or residency in Fort McMurray. The successful candidate will program addressable panels, troubleshoot faults, read electrical/fire alarm drawings, and ensure compliance with CAN/ULC, NFPA, Alberta Building/Fire

Qualifications

  • Fully registered CFAA Fire Alarm Technician with 3+ years in industrial/live facilities.
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience with addressable fire alarm systems and multiple manufacturers.

Responsibilities

The Opportunity

As we continue with our growth strategy, Rotaflow is seeking experienced CFAA Fire Alarm Technicians to join our team. The successful candidates will either be a resident in Fort McMurray, or fly-in/fly-out from either Calgary or Edmonton.

Flights are covered by the client from 2 hub cities (Calgary or Edmonton). Employee would be responsible for flights to the hub city if they do not live local to Fort McMurray, Calgary, or Edmonton.

The day-to-day responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, programming, and repairs on fire alarm systems and associated life-safety equipment in accordance with applicable CAN/ULC standards, NFPA requirements, the Alberta Building Code, Alberta Fire Code, and CEC.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex fire alarm system faults, including circuits, devices, components, control panels, communication issues, and field wiring.
  • Perform programming, configuration, testing, and commissioning of addressable fire alarm panels and devices.
  • Locate, install, test, and service fire alarm equipment, panels, sensors, modules, control components, and associated devices.
  • Perform required periodic inspections on fire alarm systems, emergency lighting units, fire suppression systems, wet and dry sprinkler systems, standpipe and hose systems, portable fire extinguishers, and other applicable fire and life-safety equipment.
  • Identify system deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, complete repairs where required, and accurately document findings.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, fire alarm drawings, diagrams, specifications, schematics, sequence of operations, service manuals, and manufacturer documentation.
  • Complete inspection reports, service reports, work orders, deficiency reports, and other required documentation accurately and efficiently.
  • Enter required notifications, work information, and maintenance documentation into SAP and applicable reporting systems.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and support maintenance and project execution in collaboration with design, project management, contractors, clients, and other team members.
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and system modifications within live operating industrial facilities while minimizing disruption to operations.
  • Participate in Rotaflow's safety culture and comply with applicable procedures, JHAs, permits, isolation/lockout requirements, and client/site-specific safety standards.
  • Maintain required safety training, certifications, and site access qualifications.
  • Work closely and professionally with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and other Rotaflow team members.
  • Represent Rotaflow professionally and provide a high level of customer service while on client sites.
What We Are Looking For
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in the fire protection/fire alarm industry, preferably within industrial, oil sands, or other live operating facilities.
  • Fully licensed and registered CFAA Fire Alarm Technician – required.
  • Demonstrated advanced experience in fire alarm troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair, and fault finding.
  • Strong hands-on experience with addressable fire alarm panel programming, configuration, testing, and commissioning.
  • Working knowledge and experience with multiple major fire alarm panel manufacturers, systems, and monitoring communicators.
  • Experience diagnosing circuit, component, equipment, communication, device, and programming faults.
  • Suncor site and/or oil sands experience strongly preferred.
  • Industrial electrical experience is considered a strong asset
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable CAN/ULC standards, NFPA requirements, CEC, Alberta Building Code, and Alberta Fire Code.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and fire alarm drawings, schematics, diagrams, specifications, sequence of operations, and service manuals.
  • Demonstrated experience performing maintenance and troubleshooting in live industrial facilities.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal and customer-service abilities.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work rotational/shift schedules as required.
  • Ability to successfully complete required site clearances, including background checks, references, and drug and alcohol testing.
  • Physically capable of performing hands-on technical work, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Candidates should possess or be able to obtain applicable site-required training, which may include:

  • BSO/CSO
  • Fall Protection
  • Elevated Work Platform (EWP)
  • CSEM
  • WHMIS 2015
  • High Voltage Sub-Safety Orientation
  • 4X Altair Multi-Gas Detector training
  • Isolation & Lockout
  • Other client or site‑specific certifications as required
Experienced Fire Alarm Technician

This position is intended for a fully registered CFAA Fire Alarm Technician with a minimum of 3 years of directly related experience. The successful candidate must be capable of working independently on complex fire alarm systems and demonstrate strong competency in troubleshooting, diagnostics, programming, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience working with addressable fire alarm systems in industrial or oil sands environments and be comfortable diagnosing and resolving system issues with limited supervision.
